Ketogenic diet for infantile epileptic spasms

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Approximately half of all cases of Infantile Epileptic Spasms Syndrome (IESS) do not respond to vigabatrin and hormonal therapies. There is no clear consensus as to the second‐line therapy for IESS. Ketogenic diet (KD) has emerged as an effective treatment for certain drug‐resistant epilepsies and in many cases of IESS.

Reversing brain aging: Targeting energy metabolism in endogenous neural stem cells

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
Mechanism of endogenous neural stem cells (eNSCs) energy metabolism disorder leading to brain aging and targeted eNSCs intervention strategies (By biorender). The disorder of energy metabolism of eNSCs can lead to their resting and aging, and eventually lead to brain aging.

Lactate as a metabolic–epigenetic signal linking high-intensity interval training (HIIT) to miRNA-Centered remodeling of the skeletal muscle methylome and transcriptome

open access: yesRedox Biology
Background: Lactate, a key exercise-derived metabolite and exerkine, is increasingly recognized as a metabolic–epigenetic signal, yet whether lactate and its transport directly shape skeletal-muscle epigenetic and transcriptional adaptations to exercise ...

Mitochondria‐targeted nanomedicine for cancer therapy: Targeting strategies, therapeutic mechanisms, and translational challenges

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in mitochondria‐targeted nanomedicine for cancer therapy. It summarizes key targeting strategies and delineates four principal therapeutic mechanisms: oxidative stress–induced mitochondrial dysfunction, disruption of energy metabolism, direct mitochondrial damage, and induction of immunogenic cell death.

Proteomic and Metabolomic Profiling Reveal Mitochondrial Transplantation–Mediated Reprogramming in Gastric Cancer Cells

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mitochondria provide multiple functions for cellular physiology. Transplantation of mitochondria isolated from gastric epithelial cells GES‐1 reducing the malignancy of gastric cancer cells AGS was previously reported. To elucidate the underlying mechanisms, TMT‐based proteomic analysis coupling ingenuity pathway software prediction revealed ...

Synergistic and antagonistic interactions of oxybenzone and ocean acidification: new insight into vulnerable cellular processes in non-calcifying anthozoans

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
Cnidarians face significant threats from ocean acidification (OA) and anthropogenic pollutants such as oxybenzone (BP-3). The convergence of threats from multiple stressors is an important area to investigate because of potential significant synergistic ...

Basigin (CD147) is the target for organomercurial inhibition of monocarboxylate transporter isoforms 1 and 4: the ancillary protein for the insensitive MCT2 is EMBIGIN (gp70).

open access: yesThe Journal of biological chemistry, 2005
Translocation of monocarboxylate transporters MCT1 and MCT4 to the plasma membrane requires CD147 (basigin) with which they remain tightly associated. However, the importance of CD147 for MCT activity is unclear. MCT1 and MCT4 are both inhibited by the cell-impermeant organomercurial reagent p-chloromercuribenzene sulfonate (pCMBS). Here we demonstrate

Rhaponticin Blocks Glycolysis‐Mediated Histone Lactylation to Suppress Tongue Squamous Cell Carcinoma via HIF‐1α Activity Inhibition

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tongue squamous cell carcinoma (TSCC) often develops therapeutic resistance. Metabolic reprogramming, particularly the glycolysis/lactate/histone lactylation axis, is a critical driver of tumor progression and therapy resistance. This study investigated the anti‐tumor mechanism of Rhaponticin (Rha), focusing on the metabolic/epigenetic axis ...

Exometabolomics Reveals Metabolic Modulation Induced by Chia Oil Supplementation in Adipose Tissue Explants From Obese Mice

open access: yesLipids, EarlyView.
The experimental design and the exometabolomic findings obtained by 1H‐NMR analysis of conditioned media from subcutaneous (SAT) and epididymal adipose tissue (EAT) explants of control and obese mice supplemented with chia oil (1.5% (w/w)). Following 8 weeks of control or high‐fat diet and 5 weeks of chia oil supplementation, SAT and EAT explants were ...

Multi‐Omics Analysis Reveals Coordinated Adaptations in Genes, Metabolism, and Gut Microbiota Underpinning Herbivory in Lordiphosa Flies

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Multi‐omics analysis reveals that herbivorous adaptation in Lordiphosa flies arises from coordinated interactions across the genome, transcriptome, and gut microbiota: genomic expansions of detoxification (e.g., cytochrome P450s) and carbohydrate metabolism gene families, transcriptomic upregulation of energy pathways like lipid oxidation and ...
