Monounsaturated Fatty Acids in Obesity-Related Inflammation. [PDF]
Obesity is an important aspect of the metabolic syndrome and is often associated with chronic inflammation. In this context, inflammation of organs participating in energy homeostasis (such as liver, adipose tissue, muscle and pancreas) leads to the recruitment and activation of macrophages, which secrete pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Dietary monounsaturated fatty acids and haemostasis [PDF]
Diets high in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) are increasingly being recommended as a highly-effective cholesterol-lowering strategy in populations at risk of CHD. However, the need for a re-appraisal of the benefits of diets rich in MUFA became apparent as a result of recent studies showing that meals high in olive oil cause greater postprandial ...

Increased liver content of DHA‐derived small lipid autacoids (i.e resolvin D1 and maresin 1) associates with enhanced mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid β‐oxidation and bioenergetic metabolic flux. These features provide hepatic protection from steatotic, pro‐inflammatory and fibrogenic insults.

Plant monounsaturated fatty acids: Diversity, biosynthesis, functions and uses
Monounsaturated fatty acids are straight-chain aliphatic monocarboxylic acids comprising a unique carbon‑carbon double bond, also termed unsaturation. More than 50 distinct molecular structures have been described in the plant kingdom, and more remain to be discovered.

Plasma Saturated and Monounsaturated Fatty Acids in Behçet's Disease. [PDF]
Background:Fatty Acid (FA) composition of serum has been associated with many markers of inflammation. In this study, we tried to examine plasma Saturated Fatty Acid (SFA) and Monounsaturated Fatty Acid (MUFA) composition in Behçet's Disease (BD) patients.

Dietary influences on serum lipids and lipoproteins.
Substantial data are available to indicate that the diet influences serum levels of cholesterol and lipoproteins. These data are derived from studies in laboratory animals, from epidemiologic studies, and from human investigations.

Monounsaturated fatty acids and immune function [PDF]
Animal studies generally support the idea that olive oil, rich in oleic acid, is capable of modulating functions of cells of the immune system. Importantly, several studies have demonstrated suppressive effects of oleic acid-containing diets on in vivo immune responses.

Ultrasound-assisted self-metathesis reactions of monounsaturated fatty acids
An efficient protocol for the self-metathesis of oleic acid, using ruthenium catalysts is described. The self-metathesis reaction under ultrasonic activation allows the conversion of monoenic fatty acids such as oleic acid, elaidic ...
