Diabetes Alters KIF1A and KIF5B Motor Proteins in the Hippocampus

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Diabetes mellitus is the most common metabolic disorder in humans. Diabetic encephalopathy is characterized by cognitive and memory impairments, which have been associated with changes in the hippocampus, but the mechanisms underlying those impairments ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Cognition may link cortical IGFBP5 levels with motor function in older adults.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Alzheimer's disease and related disorders (ADRD) may manifest cognitive and non-cognitive phenotypes including motor impairment, suggesting a shared underlying biology.

Delineation of the TRAK binding regions of the kinesin-1 motor proteins

open access: yesFEBS Letters, 2013
Understanding specific cargo distribution in differentiated cells is a major challenge. Trafficking kinesin proteins (TRAKs) are kinesin adaptors. They bind the cargo binding domain of kinesin‐1 motor proteins forming a link between the motor and their ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

ATP-dependent chromatin assembly is functionally distinct from chromatin remodeling

open access: yeseLife, 2013
Chromatin assembly involves the combined action of ATP-dependent motor proteins and histone chaperones. Because motor proteins in chromatin assembly also function as chromatin remodeling factors, we investigated the relationship between ATP-driven ...

Motor proteins: Myosin V –  the multi-purpose transport motor [PDF]

open access: yesCurrent Biology, 1997
Studies in yeast and mice suggest that myosin V participates in the directed transport of a number of distinct cargos to polarized regions of the cell; myosin V has also been implicated in the provision of materials for filopodial extension in neurons.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Cyclic di-GMP differentially tunes a bacterial flagellar motor through a novel class of CheY-like regulators

open access: yeseLife, 2017
The flagellar motor is a sophisticated rotary machine facilitating locomotion and signal transduction. Owing to its important role in bacterial behavior, its assembly and activity are tightly regulated. For example, chemotaxis relies on a sensory pathway
