Stability and degradation of mRNA

Current Opinion in Cell Biology, 1991
Differential mRNA stability plays an important role in the regulation of gene expression. Several recent advances have helped to define the general pathways by which mRNA is degraded in prokaryotic cells, although many details remain to be elucidated.

Control of mRNA stability in eukaryotes

Biochemical Society Transactions, 2006
mRNA turnover plays a key role in the control of gene expression. Recent work has shown that proteins involved in mRNA turnover are located in multicomponent complexes which are tightly regulated. The control of mRNA stability is also intimately linked with translational processes.

Translation affects immunoglobulin mRNA stability

European Journal of Immunology, 1989
AbstractWhen termination codons were introduced into exons of the gene for Ig m̈ chain, steady‐state levels of m̈ mRNA were reduced, both at the pre‐B cell stage and at the plasma cell stage. A termination codon in the variable region gene segment and a termination codon in the second exon of the constant region gene segment had effects of similar ...

mRNA STABILITY AND CELLULAR DIFFERENTIATION

Acta Endocrinologica, 1972
ABSTRACT The diversity of mRNA half-lives was investigated in a differentiated insect tissue, the silkmoth galea, which is specialized for production of a characteristic protein, the zymogen of the proteolytic enzyme, cocoonase. It appears that the differentiation-specific cocoonase mRNA is uniquely stable (half-life ca. 100 h).

Stabilization of casein mRNA by prolactin and glucocorticoids

Biochimie, 1978
Prolactin injected into pseudopregnant rabbits led to a parallel enhancement of casein synthesis and casein mRNA concentration. When this stimulation was followed by a withdrawal of prolactin obtained by injections of bromocriptine, the rate of casein synthesis progressively diminished.

Stability and degradation of mRNA

2015
This chapter focuses on the stability and degradation of mRNA, highlighting other classes of RNA molecules that have regulated half-lives. It talks about regulating the stability of mRNA which provides another means of controlling gene expression. The chapter also clarifies that protein molecules can be synthesized if an mRNA is more stable.

mRNA stability and control of cell proliferation

Biochemical Society Transactions, 2011
Most of the studies on cell proliferation examine the control of gene expression by specific transcription factors that act on transcriptional initiation. In the last few years, it became evident that mRNA stability/turnover provides an important mechanism for post-transcriptional control of gene expression.

Control of mRNA stability in higher plants

Plant Molecular Biology, 1996
The degradation rates of different mRNAs in higher plants can vary over a broad range and are regulated by a variety of endogenous and exogenous stimuli. During the past several years, efforts to better understand the control of mRNA stability in plants have increased considerably and this has led to improved methodologies and important mechanistic ...

Global Estimation of mRNA Stability in Yeast

2011
Turnover of mRNA is an important level of gene regulation. Individual mRNAs have different intrinsic stabilities. Moreover, mRNA stability changes dynamically with conditions such as hormonal stimulation or cellular stress. While accurate methods exist to measure the half-life of an individual transcript, global methods to estimate mRNA turnover have ...
