Gli regulates MUC5AC transcription in human gastrointestinal cells. [PDF]
MUC5AC is a well-known gastric differentiation marker, which has been frequently used for the classification of stomach cancer. Immunohistochemistry revealed that expression of MUC5AC decreases accompanied with increased malignant property of gastric ...

H pylori colocalises with MUC5AC in the human stomach [PDF]
The bacterium Helicobacter pylori is able to adhere to and to colonise the human gastric epithelium, yet the primary gene product responsible as a receptor for its adherence has not been identified. To investigate the expression of the gastric mucins MUC5AC and MUC6 in the gastric epithelium in relation to H pylori colonisation in order to examine their

Muc5ac: a critical component mediating the rejection of enteric nematodes [PDF]
De novo expression of Muc5ac, a mucin not normally expressed in the intestinal tract, is induced in the cecum of mice resistant to Trichuris muris infection. In this study, we investigated the role of Muc5ac, which is detected shortly before worm expulsion and is associated with the production of interleukin-13 (IL-13), in resistance to this nematode ...

Humoral immune response to MUC5AC in patients with colorectal polyps and colorectal carcinoma
Background MUC5AC is a secreted mucin aberrantly expressed by colorectal polyps and carcinoma. It has been hypothesized that aberrant expression of MUC5AC in colorectal carcinoma tissues increased the overall survival of patients with colorectal ...

Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) is a periodontopathic pathogen that may affect MUC5AC‐related mucus hypersecretion along airway epithelial cells. Here, we attempted to establish whether Pg virulence factors (lipopolysaccharide, FimA fimbriae, gingipains ...

Glucocorticoids Inhibit MUC5AC Production Induced by Transforming Growth Factor-α in Human Respiratory Cells [PDF]
Background: Mucus hypersecretion from airway epithelium is a characteristic feature of severe asthma. Glucocorticoids (GCs) may suppress mucus production and diminish the harmful airway obstruction.

Molecular implications of MUC5AC-CD44 axis in colorectal cancer progression and chemoresistance [PDF]
Background Differential expression of mucins has been associated with several cancers including colorectal cancer (CRC). In normal physiological conditions, secretory mucin MUC5AC is not expressed in the colonic mucosa, whereas its aberrant expression is

Understanding the Clinical Significance of MUC5AC in Biliary Tract Cancers
Biliary tract cancers (BTC) arise from biliary epithelium and include cholangiocarcinomas or CCA (including intrahepatic (ICC) and extrahepatic (ECC)) and gallbladder cancers (GBC). They often have poor outcomes owing to limited treatment options, advanced presentations, frequent recurrence, and poor response to available systemic therapy.

Development of a Serum Biomarker Assay That Differentiates Tumor‐Associated MUC5AC (NPC‐1C ANTIGEN) from Normal MUC5AC [PDF]
A serum ELISA using a monoclonal antibody that detects a MUC5AC‐related antigen (NPC‐1C antigen) expressed by pancreatic and colorectal cancer was developed. The NPC‐1C antibody reacts with specific epitopes expressed by tumor‐associated MUC5AC that does not appear on MUC5AC from normal tissues.

Requirement for MUC5AC in KRAS-dependent lung carcinogenesis [PDF]
With more than 150,000 deaths per year in the US alone, lung cancer has the highest number of deaths for any cancer. These poor outcomes reflect a lack of treatment for the most common form of lung cancer, non–small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC).
