Obese Childhood Dyslipidemia Management Beyond Statins — MUFA, PUFA, and Sea-buckthorn Supplements

open access: yes, 2015
The dyslipidemia pattern usually associated with childhood obesity consists of a combination of elevated triglyceridemia, decreased plasma high density lipoprotein cholesterol concentration and LDL-c concentration at the upper limit of the normal range. This type of dyslipidemia is associated with dense and small LDL, which are proatherogenic.

Fluctuation of monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) in several skeletal muscles of Japanese Black cattle

open access: yesNihon Chikusan Gakkaiho, 2008

Larval Arctic cod (Boreogadus saida) exhibit stronger developmental and physiological responses to temperature than to elevated pCO2

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract High‐latitude ecosystems are simultaneously warming and acidifying under ongoing climate change. Arctic cod (Boreogadus saida) are a key species in the Arctic Ocean and have demonstrated sensitivity to ocean warming and acidification as adults and embryos, but their larval sensitivity to the combined stressors is unknown. In a laboratory multi‐

Current Trends, Future Prospects and Constraints of Whole Microalgae and Their Fractions as a Functional Feed Ingredient for Animals

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microalgae are a highly diverse group of unicellular organisms that grow in a wide range of aquatic environments and are widely used as dietary supplements for both human and animal applications. Microalgae are rich in lipids, proteins, carbohydrates and other valuable bioactive components such as pigments, antioxidants and vitamins.

Toward the valorization of olive (Olea europaea var. europaea L.) biodiversity: horticultural performance of seven Sicilian cultivars in a hedgerow planting system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
An intense survey of the Sicilian's olive growing areas for autochthonous germplasm, mainly represented by centennials olive trees (Olea europaea var. europaea L.) apparently older then III centuries, started at the beginning of the 1980s and resulted in

Ficolin 3 promotes ferroptosis in HCC by downregulating IR/SREBP axis-mediated MUFA synthesis

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research
Abstract Background Targeting ferroptosis has been identified as a promising approach for the development of cancer therapies. Monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) is a type of lipid that plays a crucial role in inhibiting ferroptosis.

Eggs and Associated Nutrients: Implications for Brain Development and Function From Conception to Early Adulthood: A Narrative Review

open access: yesNutrition Bulletin, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Brain development is an ongoing process that occurs throughout the first 1000 days of life (conception until 2 years) and proceeds throughout childhood, adolescence and up until early adulthood. Adequate nutrient intakes are crucial for both neurodevelopment inside the womb and critical life‐stages thereafter when the brain continues to grow ...

Saturated fat exacerbates mitochondrial dysfunction through remodelling of ATP production and inflammation in Barrett’s oesophagus compared to monounsaturated fat, particularly in contrast to oesophageal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesNeoplasia: An International Journal for Oncology Research
Obesity-related oesophageal adenocarcinoma (OAC), arising from Barrett’s oesophagus (BO), incidence rates are rising coincident with high-fat diets. However, adipose tissue phenotype drives metabolic characteristics.
