Elevation of Stearoyl‐Coenzyme A Desaturase and Monounsaturated Fatty Acids in Parkinson's Disease Serum

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Emerging evidence indicates that dysregulation of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), synthesized by the enzyme stearoyl‐coenzyme A desaturase (SCD), impacts on α‐synuclein pathology in the Parkinson's disease (PD) brain. Objective The objective of this study was to analyze SCD and MUFA‐enriched lipids in the periphery of patients ...

Saturated fat exacerbates mitochondrial dysfunction through remodelling of ATP production and inflammation in Barrett’s oesophagus compared to monounsaturated fat, particularly in contrast to oesophageal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesNeoplasia: An International Journal for Oncology Research
Obesity-related oesophageal adenocarcinoma (OAC), arising from Barrett’s oesophagus (BO), incidence rates are rising coincident with high-fat diets. However, adipose tissue phenotype drives metabolic characteristics.

Effect of dietary waste date meal (Phoneix dactylifera) on chemical body composition, nutrition value and fatty acids profile of fingerling common carp (Cyprinus carpio) [PDF]

open access: yesبوم‌شناسی آبزیان, 2018
The present study evaluated the effect of dietary waste date meal (WDM) on body chemical composition and fatty acids profile of fingerling cyprinus carpio.

Lipodystrophy and adipose tissue recovery are mediated by the Wnt/lipogenesis axis during skin fibrosis

open access: yesThe Journal of Pathology, EarlyView.
Abstract Acquired lipodystrophy in the dermal white adipose tissue (DWAT) is an early phenotype of skin fibrosis, followed by the accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM). Lipodystrophy syndromes are estimated to affect 1 in 20,000 people and are associated with metabolic comorbidities.

Alterations in Metabolites Associated With Umbilical Cord Blood in Monozygotic Twins Discordant for Congenital Heart Disease

open access: yesPediatric Discovery, EarlyView.
This study found that the metabolomic signature of umbilical venous cord blood in congenital heart disease (CHD) differs from that of healthy monozygotic (MZ) co‐twins. Dysregulation of metabolic pathways like glucose, lipid, and amino acid metabolism, along with altered metabolites, helps understand CHD predisposition.

The differential effects of fatty acids on enterocytic abundance of amyloid-beta

open access: yesLipids in Health and Disease, 2019
Background Consumption of a Western-styled diet enriched in saturated fatty acids (SFA) relative to polyunsaturated fatty acids is positively associated with risk for Alzheimer’s disease. Whilst potential causal mechanism are unclear, there is increasing

Ingestion of a single serving of saury alters postprandial levels of plasma n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and long-chain monounsaturated fatty acids in healthy human adults

open access: yesLipids in Health and Disease, 2012
Background Saury oil contains considerable amounts of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) and monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) with long aliphatic tails (>18C atoms).

When Fat Goes Astray: Your Liver and Pancreas Get Into Trouble

open access: yesPortal Hypertension &Cirrhosis, EarlyView.
Metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and intrapancreatic fat deposition (IPFD) are both common manifestations of ectopic fat accumulation. Although they share multiple risk factors, they also show notable differences in pathological features, standardization of diagnosis, and research maturity.

Plasma phospholipid fatty acid profile confirms compliance to a novel saturated fat-reduced, monounsaturated fat-enriched dairy product intervention in adults at moderate cardiovascular risk: a randomized controlled trial

open access: yesNutrition Journal, 2017
Background Dairy products are a major contributor to dietary SFA. Partial replacement of milk SFA with unsaturated fatty acids (FAs) is possible through oleic-acid rich supplementation of the dairy cow diet. To assess adherence to the intervention of SFA-
