WDTC1, the Ortholog of Drosophila Adipose Gene, Associates With Human Obesity, Modulated by MUFA Intake [PDF]

open access: yesObesity, 2009
Adipose (adp) is an obesity gene in Drosophila and mice with crucial functions in fat metabolism. We investigated the correlation between genetic variation of the WDTC1 locus, the ortholog of adp, and human obesity. Five WDTC1 single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were genotyped in 935 and 1,115 adults of two ethnically diverse US populations.

Super‐Enhancer‐Driven SOX4/SMAD3 Mediate Membrane Remodeling by Regulating Phospholipid Metabolism to Accelerate Leukemia Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chronic myeloid leukemia blast phase (CML‐BP) poses a severe therapeutic challenge. This study reveals that the super‐enhancer‐driven transcription factors SOX4 and SMAD3 form a cooperative axis critical for disease progression. They co‐activate the oncogenic kinase AXL and promote phospholipid remodeling via LPCAT1 to facilitate its signaling ...

GPX4 Inhibitor Resistance and Metastatic Features in Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study establishes breast cancer cell lines that are resistant to glutathione peroxidase 4 inhibitors (GPX4i) in vitro and investigates the metastatic capacity of the GPX4i‐resistant versus parental lines in vivo. GPX4i‐resistant cells survive upon intravenous injection, but lose capacity to spontaneously metastasize.

Ferroptosis: The Demise of Cells Through Phospholipid Peroxidation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The relative abundance of peroxidation‐resistant monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) vs. peroxidation‐sensitive polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) incorporated into phospholipid (PL) is a key determinant of ferroptosis sensitivity, as the peroxidation of PL PUFA acyl chains (PUFA‐PL) disrupts membrane integrity, causing ferroptotic cell death ...

Repeatability and validity of a food frequency questionnaire in free-living older people in relation to cognitive function [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Objectives: To determine the repeatability and validity of a self-administered, 175-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ) in free-living older people and to assess whether these are influenced by cognitive function.

Potentials to differentiate milk composition by different feeding strategies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
To investigate the effect of the dietary intake of the cow on milk composition, bulk-tank milk was collected on 5 occasions from conventional (n = 15) and organic (n = 10) farms in Denmark and on 4 occasions from low-input nonorganic farms in the United ...

Video and Text‐Based Supplemental Health Information and Consumer Willingness to Pay for Nutrient‐Enhanced Eggs

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nutritional information is very important in the food choices of consumers. However, when they are too scientific or technical, they have the potential to confuse consumers, resulting in information asymmetry and dissuading them from making beneficial choices.

Summer Annual x Fertility Rate Trial [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Warm season grasses are high yield and quality forages best grown during the hot and dry summer months. They can provide quality pasture in the summer months when common cool season grasses are not as productive. Warm season grasses can also be harvested
