Metabolomic Profiling of Statin Use and Genetic Inhibition of HMG-CoA Reductase [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background Statins are first-line therapy for cardiovascular disease prevention, but their systemic effects across lipoprotein subclasses, fatty acids, and circulating metabolites remain incompletely characterized.

Fasting and Refeeding Mediated Phospholipid Remodeling Plays an Important Role in Improving Meat Quality of Aged Laying Hens

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study explored fasting‐induced physiological remodeling effects on meat quality in aged laying hens. Fasting for 15 days (F15) significantly reduced abdominal fat, intermuscular fat width, subcutaneous fat thickness, and liver index versus pre‐fasting (F0) (p < 0.05), which recovered post‐refeeding.

Stearoyl-CoA desaturase-1 promotes colorectal cancer metastasis in response to glucose by suppressing PTEN

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research, 2018
Background Diabetic patients have a higher risk factor for colorectal cancer (CRC) metastasis. Stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1), the main enzyme responsible for producing monounsaturated fatty acids(MUFA) from saturated fatty acids, is frequently ...

Influence of the sebaceous gland density on the stratum corneum lipidome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The skin surface lipids (SSL) result from the blending of sebaceous and epidermal lipids, which derive from the sebaceous gland (SG) secretion and the permeability barrier of the stratum corneum (SC), respectively.

Socioeconomic Status Modifies the Risk of Gastric Cancer Through Metabolomic Signature: Evidence From a Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yesiNew Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The role of metabolites in the association between socioeconomic status (SES) and gastric cancer remains unclear. This study seeks to elucidate the role of metabolomics in the association between SES and gastric cancer, as well as to explore potential interactions between metabolic signatures and polygenic risk score (PRS) in the context of ...

Assessment of Total Fat and Fatty Acids in Walnuts Using Near-Infrared Hyperspectral Imaging

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
“Persian” walnut (Juglans Regia L.) is one of the most consumed tree nuts in the world. It is rich in several bioactive compounds, with polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fatty acids (PUFA and MUFA) appearing at high concentrations.

Effects of pan-frying on PUFA, MUFA and individual lipid content inSpicara smaris

open access: yesActa Alimentaria, 2012
The effects of different frying methods (oil free, extra virgin olive oil and sunflower oil pan-fried) on proximate, neutral and polar lipid composition as well as the fatty acid content of Spicara smaris, a fish species commonly consumed by Mediterranean people, were determined.

Preharvest potassium silicate treatments influence the morphological appearance and enhance nutritional composition of almond kernels

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND The almond industry requires new strategies to improve almond kernel quality. The use of biostimulants such as potassium silicate (KSi) is an eco‐friendly and non‐polluting alternative. The aim of this work was to investigate the preharvest application of KSi solutions at 2 and 20 mmol L−1 to ‘Peraleja’ almond trees during two ...

3426 Increased Monounsaturated Fat Consumption is Associated with Improved Body Composition in Subjects with Obesity and Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Translational Science, 2019
OBJECTIVES/SPECIFIC AIMS: We hypothesized that increasing percent calories from MUFA (%MUFA) would be associated an increased FFM/FM index. METHODS/STUDY POPULATION: Nine consecutive HFpEF patients with obesity participated in a 12-week pilot feasibility
