A Hidden Transhydrogen Activity of a FMN-Bound Diaphorase under Anaerobic Conditions. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
BACKGROUND:Redox cofactors of NADH/NADPH participate in many cellular metabolic pathways for facilitating the electron transfer from one molecule to another in redox reactions. Transhydrogenase plays an important role in linking catabolism and anabolism,

Variation in the organization and subunit composition of the mammalian pyruvate dehydrogenase complex E2/E3BP core assembly [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The final version of this article is available at the link below.Crucial to glucose homoeostasis in humans, the hPDC (human pyruvate dehydrogenase complex) is a massive molecular machine comprising multiple copies of three distinct enzymes (E1–E3) and an

Nano‐ and Micro‐Sized Solid Materials Used as Antiviral Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Due to the rise of viral infections in humans and possible viral outbreaks, the use of nano‐ or micro‐sized materials as antiviral agents is rapidly increasing. This review explores their antiviral properties against RNA and DNA viruses, either as a prevention or a treatment tool, by delving into their mechanisms of action and how to properly assess ...

Selection of reference genes for expression analysis using quantitative real-time PCR in the pea aphid, Acyrthosiphon pisum (Harris) (Hemiptera, Aphidiae). [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
To facilitate gene expression study and obtain accurate qRT-PCR analysis, normalization relative to stable expressed housekeeping genes is required. In this study, expression profiles of 11 candidate reference genes, including actin (Actin), elongation ...

Inhibitor-contaminated NADH: Its Influence on Dehydrogenases and Dehydrogenase-coupled Reactions

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1969
Abstract Preparations of reduced NAD are known to be prone to contain a substance which inhibits the catalytic activity of LDH. (1-Lactate: NAD oxidoreductase, EC 1.1.1.27).

Dynamics of the Mammalian Placental Metabolome in Placentogenesis and Embryonic Development

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies three metabolic stages (E8.5, E9.5–10.5, E11.5–14.5) and two transition periods (E8.5–9.5, E10.5–11.5) in mouse placental development. NAD(H) emerges as a key dynamic metabolite that enhances embryonic growth through accelerated segmentation and increased proliferation of mouse embryonic stem cell (mESC)‐induced presomitic ...

COFACTOR SPECIFICITY ENGINEERING OF STREPTOCOCCUS MUTANS NADH OXIDASE 2 FOR NAD(P)+ REGENERATION IN BIOCATALYTIC OXIDATIONS

open access: yesComputational and Structural Biotechnology Journal, 2014
Soluble water-forming NAD(P)H oxidases constitute a promising NAD(P)+ regeneration method as they only need oxygen as cosubstrate and produce water as sole byproduct. Moreover, the thermodynamic equilibrium of O2 reduction is a valuable driving force for

NADH dehydrogenases drive inward electron transfer in Shewanella oneidensis MR‐1

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, 2023
Shewanella oneidensis MR‐1 is a promising chassis organism for microbial electrosynthesis because it has a well‐defined biochemical pathway (the Mtr pathway) that can connect extracellular electrodes to respiratory electron carriers inside the cell.

Protein Language Model‐Guided Engineering of a 2,3‐Butanediol Dehydrogenase for the Enantioselective Synthesis of Cyclic α‐Hydroxy Ketones

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A (2R,3R)‐butanediol dehydrogenase from Bacillus subtilis (BsBDH) is engineered for the enantioselective synthesis of 2‐hydroxycyclohexanone. A PASS computational design strategy is proposed to enhance the thermostability of BsBDH. Moreover, ESM‐1v combined with ISM is utilized for enhancing and inverting its stereoselectivity.

Effect of respiratory inhibitors and quinone analogues on the aerobic electron transport system of Eikenella corrodens

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
The effects of respiratory inhibitors, quinone analogues and artificial substrates on the membrane-bound electron transport system of the fastidious β-proteobacterium Eikenella corrodens grown under O2-limited conditions were studied. NADH respiration in
