NADPH oxidase limits innate immune responses in the lungs in mice. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), an inherited disorder of the NADPH oxidase in which phagocytes are defective in generating superoxide anion and downstream reactive oxidant intermediates (ROIs), is characterized by recurrent bacterial and fungal ...

Mitochondrial Calcium Uniporter Drives Chemoresistance in Pancreatic Cancer via Glutathione‐Mediated Stemness Maintenance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PDAC has a poor prognosis due to chemoresistance. We revealed that MCU upregulation is associated with chemoresistance and stemness in PDAC. MCU‐mediated Ca2+ influx induced ER stress, activating the PERK‐ATF4/NRF2 axis to enhance PSAT1/SLC711 expression and glutathione synthesis, reducing ROS and maintaining stemness.

Myeloid-derived suppressor cells modulate immune responses independently of NADPH oxidase in the ovarian tumor microenvironment in mice. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The phagocyte NADPH oxidase generates superoxide anion and downstream reactive oxidant intermediates in response to infectious threat, and is a critical mediator of antimicrobial host defense and inflammatory responses.

Dysfunctional TRIM31 of POMC Neurons Provokes Hypothalamic Injury and Peripheral Metabolic Disorder under Long‐Term Fine Particulate Matter Exposure

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Particulate matter ≤2.5 µm (PM2.5) elevates risks of neurological and chronic metabolic diseases, but the underlying mechanisms linking PM2.5‐induced central nervous system (CNS) injury to metabolic dysfunction remain unclear. Hypothalamic pro‐opiomelanocortin‐expressing (POMC+) neurons regulate systemic metabolic homeostasis, and tripartite motif ...

A Role for Reactive Oxygen Species Produced by NADPH Oxidases in the Embryo and Aleurone Cells in Barley Seed Germination.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) promote the germination of several seeds, and antioxidants suppress it. However, questions remain regarding the role and production mechanism of ROS in seed germination. Here, we focused on NADPH oxidases, which produce ROS.

Gallium‐Doped MXene Nanozymes Protect Liver Through Multi‐Death Pathway Blockade and Hepatocyte Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops gallium‐doped V2C MXene nanozymes (Ga‐V2C) to treat acetaminophen‐induced liver injury through multi‐death pathway blockade and hepatocyte regeneration. Unlike conventional single‐target therapies like N‐acetylcysteine, Ga‐V2C nanozymes enable oxidative stress suppression, apoptosis, and ferroptosis inhibition, and enhanced ...

Novel mutations in NCF4 gene confer non-classic chronic granulomatous disease with disseminated histoplasmosis in a Colombian child

open access: yesRevista Alergia México, 2018
Background: Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is a primary immunodeficiency characterized by susceptibility to early-onset life-threatening bacterial and fungal infections as well as dysregulated chronic inflammation.

Unveiling Global Diversity of Patescibacteriota and Functional Interactions with Host Microbes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Patescibacteriota represents a diverse group of ultra‐small epibiotic bacteria, which is largely overlooked. By integrating ribosomal protein S3‐based community profiling with MAG‐based metabolic potential analyses, this study provides new insights into their distribution, diversity, and potential interactions with other bacteria across diverse ...

Antioxidant Protection of NADPH-Depleted Oligodendrocyte Precursor Cells Is Dependent on Supply of Reduced Glutathione

open access: yesASN Neuro, 2016
The pentose phosphate pathway is the main source of NADPH, which by reducing oxidized glutathione, contributes to antioxidant defenses. Although oxidative stress plays a major role in white matter injury, significance of NADPH for oligodendrocyte ...

Nadph Alters Duox1 Calcium Responsiveness

open access: yesRedox Biology, 2023
Hydrogen peroxide is a key element in redox signaling and in setting cellular redox tone. DUOX1 and DUOX2, that directly synthesize hydrogen peroxide, are the most abundant NADPH oxidase transcripts in most epithelia. DUOX1 and DUOX2 hydrogen peroxide synthesis is regulated by intracellular calcium transients and thus cells can respond to signals and ...
