Natural killer T cells in health and disease [PDF]
Natural killer T (NKT) cells are a subset of T lymphocytes that share surface markers and functional characteristics with both conventional T lymphocytes and natural killer cells. Most NKT cells express a semi-invariant T cell receptor that reacts with glycolipid antigens presented by the major histocompatibility complex class I-related protein CD1d on

Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Background Natural killer cells have been demonstrated to exert remarkable graft-versus-leukemia effects after haploidentical transplantation. Acquisition of both, inhibiting and activating, receptors on developing natural killer cells is an important ...

Activation of natural killer cells can be mediated by different receptors. Stimulation of the receptors 2B4, NTB-A and CRACC, members of the SLAM-related receptor family, induces cytotoxicity and cytokine production.

Influence of Cytokines and Autologous Lymphokine-Activated Killer Cells on Leukemic Bone Marrow Cells and Colonies in AML [PDF]
We have already shown that cytokine cocktails (IL-1 beta, IL-3, IL-6, SCF, GM-CSF) and/or lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cells can reduce the amounts of clonal, CD34-positive mononuclear bone marrow cells (BM-MNC) in acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Both cg12821679MAPRE3 methylation and MAPRE3 expression are significantly associated with overall survival (OS) of non‐small cell lung cancer. Meanwhile, MAPRE3 expression significantly modified the effect of smoking cessation on OS. Smoking cessation benefits OS merely for patients with high MAPRE3 expression.

Background Salivary gland cancers are not sensitive to conventional radiotherapy or chemotherapy regimens. Therefore, the development of a new treatment strategy is of critical importance for improving the prognosis.

Adipose invariant natural killer T cells [PDF]
SummaryAdipose tissue is a dynamic organ that makes up a substantial proportion of the body; in severe obesity it can account for 50% of body mass. Details of the unique immune system resident in human and murine adipose tissue are only recently emerging, and so it has remained a largely unexplored and unappreciated immune site until now.

Natural killer T cells: Know thyself [PDF]
There are two main reasons why natural killer T (NKT) cells fascinate immunologists. First, they exhibit a unique melange of properties found in innate immune cells as well as the properties of conventional T cells, part of adaptive immunity (1–4). Second, NKT cells exercise a determining influence on a variety of immune responses in mice, ranging from
