Hormone replacement therapy and its association with LATE‐NC in older adults

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION Limbic‐predominant age‐related transactive response DNA‐binding protein 43 (TDP‐43) encephalopathy neuropathological change (LATE‐NC) is a cause of dementia resembling Alzheimer's disease (AD). The 90+ Study found women using hormone replacement therapy (HRT) two to three decades before death had lower odds of LATE‐NC.

Vulnerability of locus coeruleus connections to aging and Alzheimer's disease

open access: yesAlzheimer's &Dementia, Volume 22, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract INTRODUCTION The locus coeruleus (LC) is important in coordinating communication between brain regions through its widespread connections. However, the organization of its connections, and its changes with aging and Alzheimer's disease (AD), remains unclear.

Epigenetic Mechanisms Underlying Cognitive Dysfunction in Parkinson's Disease: Current Evidence and Future Prospects

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 16, Issue 8, August 2026.
Epigenetic mechanismsincluding DNA methylation, histone modifications, and microRNA (miRNA) regulationmodulate gene expression without altering the DNA sequence and are increasingly implicated in the cognitive impairment associated with Parkinson's disease (PD). Environmental and molecular factors influence these epigenetic pathways, leading to altered

Regional Functional Molecular Profiles Within the Mammalian Cortex: A Commentary on Limbic Mesocortex

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 534, Issue 8, August 2026.
Two lateral mouse brain sagittal sections labeled, respectively, for Lypd1 (A) and Kcnab3 (B). (A) Lypd1 labels positively cortical Layers 2 and 5 (less heavily), but only at limbic mesocortical sites, forming the limbic ring that separates the unlabeled isocortex (IsoCx) from the unlabeled hippocampal and olfactory allocortex (Hi, Sub, ERh; OlfCx ...

Brain‐Wide Mapping and Synaptic Localization of C1QL3 Using a Novel Epitope‐Tagged Knock‐In Mouse

open access: yesJournal of Comparative Neurology, Volume 534, Issue 8, August 2026.
C1QL3 is a secreted adhesion molecule that acts as a key regulator of synaptic structure and function. We generated and validated a novel epitope‐tagged knock‐in mouse line (C1ql32HA) in which two hemagglutinin (HA) epitopes were inserted near the N‐terminus of the endogenous C1QL3 protein.

Mapping the Phenotypic Spectrum of Occipital Lobe Epilepsy: A SEEG‐Defined Network Classification

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 8, August 2026.
This SEEG‐based study identifies four propagation patterns in occipital lobe epilepsy (restricted, ventral–limbic, dorsal/DMN–limbic, and lateral TPOJ) linked to five clinical phenotypes. Seizure semiology is shaped by pathway‐selective propagation rather than the onset zone alone, providing a network‐based framework for personalized surgical planning.

Motivational Coaching Cues Can Modulate Prefrontal Cortex Activity and Perceptual Responses of Elite Football Players During High‐Intensity Interval Training: A Randomised Crossover fNIRS Study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Sport Science, Volume 26, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Football coaches commonly provide verbal encouragement and exercise end‐point feedback to sustain players' effort by enhancing motivation during fitness training such as high‐intensity interval training (HIIT). However, the influence of such cues on the prefrontal cortex (PFC), a region involved in exercise cessation decisions, remains unclear.

Real‐world outcomes of responsive neurostimulation in patients with Lennox–Gastaut syndrome: A multicenter retrospective study

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, Volume 11, Issue 4, Page 1244-1254, August 2026.
Abstract Objective Lennox–Gastaut syndrome (LGS) is a severe developmental and epileptic encephalopathy (DEE) characterized by multiple seizure types and high resistance to antiseizure medication (ASM), often necessitating nonpharmacologic therapies, including neuromodulation.

Single‐Nucleus Multiomic Analysis Reveals Immune–Metabolic Reprogramming Consistent With Maladaptive Trained Immunity in HIV‐Associated Neurocognitive Disorders

open access: yesGlia, Volume 74, Issue 8, August 2026.
Single‐nucleus multiomic profiling of postmortem brain reveals coordinated immune, metabolic, and epigenomic reprogramming in glia of people with HIV consistent with maladaptive trained immunity sustaining neuroinflammation in HAND. ABSTRACT HIV‐associated neurocognitive disorders (HAND) remain prevalent in people with HIV (PWH) despite effective ...

Transcriptomic Convergence in Autism Spectrum Disorder: Synaptic, Immune‐Glial and RNA‐Regulatory Axes in the Human Cerebral Cortex

open access: yesInternational Journal of Developmental Neuroscience, Volume 86, Issue 5, August 2026.
Across 43 human post‐mortem cortical transcriptomic studies, ASD shows recurrent but non‐uniform convergence on reduced synaptic‐neuronal signalling, increased immune‐glial activity and RNA‐regulatory dysregulation. Metabolic and mitochondrial changes are less consistently supported and appear more conditional within the current cortical evidence base.
