New insights into epileptic spasm generation and treatment from the TTX animal model
Abstract Currently, we have an incomplete understanding of the mechanisms underlying infantile epileptic spasms syndrome (IESS). However, over the past decade, significant efforts have been made to develop IESS animal models to provide much‐needed mechanistic information for therapy development.

An Introduction to Predictive Processing Models of Perception and Decision‐Making
Abstract The predictive processing framework includes a broad set of ideas, which might be articulated and developed in a variety of ways, concerning how the brain may leverage predictive models when implementing perception, cognition, decision‐making, and motor control.

Epigenetic and metabolic regulation of developmental timing in neocortex evolution
The human brain is characterized by impressive cognitive abilities. The neocortex is the seat of higher cognition, and neocortex expansion is a hallmark of human evolution.

Absence seizures: Update on signaling mechanisms and networks
Abstract Absence seizures (AS) are a hallmark of genetic generalized epilepsies (GGE), characterized by brief episodes of impaired consciousness accompanied by electroencephalographic spike‐and‐wave discharges (SWDs). Traditionally attributed to cortico‐thalamo‐cortical (CTC) dysrhythmia, emerging evidence suggests a more intricate pathophysiological ...

Abstract Infantile epilepsy spasms syndrome (IESS), formerly known as infantile spasms or West Syndrome, is a severe epilepsy syndrome affecting about 3 in 10,000 newborns in the United States. Characterized by clusters of epileptic spasms, interictal hypsarrhythmia, and developmental delays, IESS has diverse causes, including structural‐metabolic ...

Status epilepticus: Updates on mechanisms and treatments
Abstract Status epilepticus (SE) consists of prolonged, self‐sustaining seizures and is a common neurological emergency that causes respiratory compromise and neuronal injury. Without prompt treatment, the seizures can become resistant to benzodiazepines, leading to the progressive evolution of established, refractory, and super‐refractory SE.

THE MYTH‐RITUAL COMPLEX: A BIOGENETIC STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS
. The structuring and transformation of myth is presented as a function of a number of brain “operators.” Each operator is understood to represent specifically evolved neural tissue primarily of the neocortex of the brain.

What relative neocortex size tells us about social evolution [PDF]
Primate evolution has been dominated above all by increases in brain size over time. Here I show that two separate pressures have been responsible for substantial changes in the major structural features of the primate brain.

Ketogenic diet for infantile epileptic spasms
Abstract Approximately half of all cases of Infantile Epileptic Spasms Syndrome (IESS) do not respond to vigabatrin and hormonal therapies. There is no clear consensus as to the second‐line therapy for IESS. Ketogenic diet (KD) has emerged as an effective treatment for certain drug‐resistant epilepsies and in many cases of IESS.
