Decreased homovanillic acid and 5‐hydroxyindoleacetic acid levels in the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with Dravet syndrome with parkinsonism

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Dravet syndrome (DS) is an early onset, developmental, and epileptic encephalopathy characterized by drug‐resistant seizures and multiple comorbidities. It has been reported that in adulthood, it may be accompanied by parkinsonism, but the pathogenesis of this condition remains unclear.

Urinary Neopterin in Malignant Lymphoma

open access: yesThe International Journal of Biological Markers, 1991
Urinary neopterin levels were studied in 96 patients with malignant lymphomas. Twenty-eight had Hodgkin's disease and 68 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Neopterin excretion was significantly related to the clinical stage of the disease. Mean neopterin excretion in patients with active disease (634 ± 527 μmol neopterin/mol creatinine) was significantly higher (

Mediators of leukocyte yctivation play a role in disseminated intravascular coagulation during orthotopic liver transplantation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Leukocytes play an important role in the development of disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). In the reperfusion phase of OLT a DIC-like situation has been described and has been held responsible for the high blood loss during this phase.

Efficient Total Syntheses of Natural Neopterin Glycosides: Neopterin Glucronide and Solfapterin [PDF]

open access: yesHETEROCYCLES, 2017
1’,2’-Di-O-acetyl-N2-(N,N-dimethylaminomethylene)-3-[2-(4-nitro- phenyl)ethyl]neopterin (11a) and its 1’,2’-di-O-benzoyl analog (11b) were prepared from neopterin in 5 steps, respectively. Glycosylation of 11a with methyl 2,3,4-tri-O-benzoyl-α-D-glucopyranosyluronate bromide (15b) in the presence of silver triflate afforded the corresponding 3’-O-(β-D ...

Aetiopathogenesis of infantile epileptic spasms syndrome and mechanisms of action of adrenocorticotrophin hormone/corticosteroids in children: A scoping review

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, EarlyView.
Why does infantile epileptic spasms syndrome (IESS) occur with a variety of underlying conditions and why does it respond to adrenocorticotrophin hormone (ACTH)/corticosteroids? Our scoping review summarizes five hypotheses from the literature: gene/epigenetic regulation, stress/HPA axis activation, neuroinflammation/immune function, altered neuronal ...

The Role of Metabolic Testing in the Diagnostic Evaluation of Adult NORSE: A Retrospective, Single‐Centre Study

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neurology, Volume 32, Issue 6, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Background New‐onset refractory status epilepticus (NORSE) is a diagnostically challenging and severe epileptic presentation in which aetiology is an important predictor of outcome. This retrospective study aimed to investigate the utility of metabolic screening to determine the underlying cause in 42 patients with suspected NORSE, admitted to

The role of Neopterin in cardiovascular disease

open access: yesMonaldi Archives for Chest Disease, 2016
Inflammation plays a key role in the initiation and progression of atherosclerosis but also in the pathophysiology of atheromatous plaque disruption and the development of acute coronary syndromes. Neopterin is a marker of inflammation and of immune system activation, it is synthesized by macrophages, that, once activated, release this substance ...

Exercise training restores longevity‐associated tryptophan metabolite 3‐hydroxyanthranilic acid levels in middle‐aged adults

open access: yesActa Physiologica, Volume 241, Issue 5, May 2025.
Abstract Aim Recent pre‐clinical evidence suggests that the tryptophan metabolite 3‐hydroxyanthranilic acid (3‐HAA) and the related enzyme activity along the kynurenine metabolic pathway (KP) are associated with lifespan extension. We aimed to translate these findings into humans and expose exercise training as a potential non‐pharmacological ...
