Neuroglobin in Aging Carotid Bodies
2009Neuroglobin (Ngb) is a member of the vertebrate globin family expressed particularly in the brain and in the retina. Ngb is concentrated in the mitochondria-containing areas of neurons, and its distribution is correlated with oxygen consumption rates. Previously we have shown that Ngb is expressed in carotid body (CB) tissues.

A role for human neuroglobin in apoptosis
IUBMB Life, 2010AbstractOver the past decade, following the discovery of the human heme protein neuroglobin, many studies have searched for evidence for this protein's mechanism of action. Much data has accrued showing that high levels of neuroglobin will protect cells from apoptotic cell death, following a wide range of challenges. Various explanations of its actions,

Neuroglobin, seven years after
Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences, 2007Neuroglobin is expressed in vertebrates brain and belongs to a branch of the globin family that diverged early in evolution. Sequence conservation suggests a relevant role in the nervous system, with tight structural restraints. Experiments in vivo and in vitro showed increased hypoxic stress damage upon repressing neuroglobin biosynthesis and improved

Functional metalloenzymes based on myoglobin and neuroglobin that exploit covalent interactions.
Journal of Inorganic BiochemistryGlobins, such as myoglobin (Mb) and neuroglobin (Ngb), are ideal protein scaffolds for the design of functional metalloenzymes. To date, numerous approaches have been developed for enzyme design. This review presents a summary of the progress made in the

THE INTERACTION NATURE OF NEUROGLOBIN AND CYTOCHROME C
Proceedings of the International Conference NT + ME`23 (Gurzuf, from May 28 to June 7, 2023), 2023The article is devoted to the clarification of the interaction nature of heme-containing pro-teins neuroglobin and cytochrome c. The obtained data show the intra-molecular electron transfer which is presumably needed for the neuroprotective function of ...

Engineering Neuroglobin for Synthesis of Chiral Organoborons via Carbene B-H Insertion.
Organic LettersOrganoborons have recently received much attention, while a biocatalytic platform for the synthesis of chiral organoborons is limited only to Rma cytochrome c.

Neuroglobin Modification by Reactive Quinone Species
Chemical Research in Toxicology, 2013The physiological functions of neuroglobin (Ngb), the heme protein of the globin family expressed in the nervous tissue, have not yet been clarified. Besides O2 storage and homeostasis, Ngb is thought to play a role in neuroprotection as a scavenger of toxic reactive species generated in vivo under conditions of oxidative stress.

Neuroglobin as a Novel Biomarker in Egyptian Children with Epilepsy
The Quarterly journal of medicineNeuroglobin (Ngb) is the fourth member of globin family which was found to be highly expressed in central and peripheral nervous system of humans. Overexpression of neuroglobin is strongly related to a neuroprotective function.

DEVELOPMENT OF MODEL CELL LINE EXPRESSING NEUROGLOBIN
Proceedings of the International Conference NT + ME`24 (Gurzuf, from June 2 to June 9, 2024)This article is devoted to the construction and study of a model cell line expressing neuroglobin. The obtained data show the manifestation of anti-apoptotic properties by neuroglobin under condi-tions of apoptosis via the cytochrome C-dependent ...
