Role of Immediate-Early Genes in Synaptic Plasticity and Neuronal Ensembles Underlying the Memory Trace

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2016
In the brain, neuronal gene expression is dynamically changed in response to neuronal activity. In particular, the expression of immediate-early genes (IEGs) such as egr-1, c-fos, and Arc is rapidly and selectively upregulated in subsets of neurons in ...

Static and Dynamic Behavior of Novel Y‐Shaped Sandwich Beams Subjected to Compressive Loadings: Integration of Supervised Learning and Experimentation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the mechanical response of Y‐shaped core sandwich beams under compressive loading is investigated, using deep feed‐forward neural networks (DFNNs) for predictive modeling. The DFNN model accurately captures stress–strain behavior, influenced by design parameters and loading rates.

On Myelinated Axon Plasticity and Neuronal Circuit Formation and Function

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience, 2017
Studies of activity-driven nervous system plasticity have primarily focused on the gray matter. However, MRI-based imaging studies have shown that white matter, primarily composed of myelinated axons, can also be dynamically regulated by activity of the ...

A Comprehensive Review of Additive Manufacturing for Space Applications: Materials, Advances, Challenges, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing (AM) transforms space hardware by enabling lightweight, high‐performance, and on‐demand production. This review outlines AM processes—powder bed fusion (PBF), directed energy deposition (DED), binder jetting (BJ), sheet lamination (SL), and material extrusion (ME)—applied to propulsion, satellite structures, and thermal devices ...

Acute neuroinflammation induces AIS structural plasticity in a NOX2-dependent manner [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background Chronic microglia-mediated inflammation and oxidative stress are well-characterized underlying factors in neurodegenerative disease, whereby reactive inflammatory microglia enhance ROS production and impact neuronal integrity. Recently, it has

Bioinspired Materials, Designs, and Manufacturing Strategies for Advanced Impact‐Resistant Helmets

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores how bioinspired materials, structures, and manufacturing strategies transform helmet design to achieve enhanced impact resistance. Drawing inspiration from nacre, porcupine quills, beetle exoskeletons, and skull architectures, it highlights advances in auxetic lattices, nanocomposites, and functionally graded foams.

Differential inhibition onto developing and mature granule cells generates high-frequency filters with variable gain

open access: yeseLife, 2015
Adult hippocampal neurogenesis provides the dentate gyrus with heterogeneous populations of granule cells (GC) originated at different times. The contribution of these cells to information encoding is under current investigation.

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...
