Nitroimidazoles as modifiers of nitrosourea pharmacokinetics
International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, 1984We have studied the effect of a number of nitroimidazole sensitizers of varying lipophilicity on the pharmacokinetics of CCNU in mice. It was found that the effectiveness of these compounds in producing pharmacokinetic effects correlated directly with their lipophilicity, viz.

X-ray analysis confirmed the configuration of the title N1-alkylated C4-nitroimidazole inhibitor. The plane of the imidazole ring, sitting on an axis of the trityl propeller, bisects the angle between two phenyl rings, while the nitro group extends over the third.

Nitroimidazole-induced chronic hepatitis
European Journal of Gastroenterology & Hepatology, 2001Drug-induced chronic hepatitis is a rare pathological condition. There is no reported case with chronic hepatitis secondary to nitroimidazole use. We report a patient who developed nitroimidazole-induced chronic hepatitis following acute exacerbation of hepatitis three times after nitroimidazole use.

The nitroimidazoles used in the treatment of anaerobic infection are well-tolerated by patients. With the possible exception of neurotoxic effects associated with high dosage, signs and symptoms of toxicity are transient and disappear soon after withdrawal of treatment.
