The Aging Blood: Cellular Origins, Circulating Drivers, and Therapeutic Potential

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
As a conduit linking all organs, the blood system both reflects and actively drives systemic aging. This review highlights how circulating pro‐aging and antiaging factors and age‐associated hematopoietic stem cell dysfunction contribute to immunosenescence and multi‐organ decline, positioning the hematopoietic system as a target for aging intervention.

Natural Products as Geroprotective Modulators in Diabetic Nephropathy: A Mechanistic Framework Integrating Aging Hallmarks and the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 Axis

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Natural products target the aging kidney in diabetic nephropathy by restoring the AMPK–SIRT1–Nrf2 axis, reducing oxidative stress, inflammation, fibrosis, and cellular senescence while enhancing mitochondrial biogenesis and antioxidant defenses.

Pyroptosis in Spinal Cord Injury: Implications for Pathogenesis and Therapeutic Approaches

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience-Landmark
Traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) is a serious disease of the central nervous system. Aside from the limited intrinsic regenerative capacity of neurons, complex microenvironmental disturbances can also lead to further cellular damage and growth ...

Mechanism of NLRP3 inflammasome activation [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the New York Academy of Sciences, 2014
Inflammasomes continue to generate interest in an increasing number of disciplines owing to their unique ability to integrate a myriad of signals from pathogen‐ and damage‐associated molecular patterns into a proinflammatory response. This potent caspase‐1–dependent process is capable of activating the innate immune system, initiating pyroptosis (an ...

Long‐Term Opioids in Gout: A Matched Cohort Study From the Veterans Health Administration

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Though used frequently to treat flare, risk of long‐term opioid exposure in gout has not been well defined. In this study, we examined the hypothesis that people with gout are more likely than individuals without gout to be prescribed long‐term opioids over time.

Interleukin-18 mediates cardiac dysfunction induced by western diet independent of obesity and hyperglycemia in the mouse [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Obesity and diabetes are independent risk factors for heart failure and are associated with the consumption of diet rich in saturated fat and sugar, Western diet (WD), known to induce cardiac dysfunction in the mouse through incompletely characterized ...
