Heterochiral coupling in non-ribosomal peptide macrolactamization [PDF]
Heterochiral coupling is favoured in abiotic peptide bond formation, whereas biotic peptide bond formation is dominated by homochiral coupling. Here, we report that heterochiral coupling is a rather general paradigm in the head-to-tail macrolactamization of non-ribosomal peptide biosynthesis. The canonical cis-acting offloading cyclases, such as type I

Streptococcus pneumoniae Proteins AmiA, AliA, and AliB Bind Peptides Found in Ribosomal Proteins of Other Bacterial Species [PDF]
The nasopharynx is frequently colonized by both commensal and pathogenic bacteria including Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococcus). Pneumococcus is an important pathogen responsible for bacterial meningitis and community acquired pneumonia but is also ...

Cyanobacterial toxins are a global threat to aquatic organisms; however, they represent only one group of bioactive cyanobacterial metabolites. Very little is known about the effects of other cyanobacterial products (e.g., non-ribosomal oligopeptides) on

Compilation of the Antimicrobial Compounds Produced by Burkholderia Sensu Stricto
Due to the increase in multidrug-resistant microorganisms, the investigation of novel or more efficient antimicrobial compounds is essential. The World Health Organization issued a list of priority multidrug-resistant bacteria whose eradication will ...

An HflX-type GTPase from Sulfolobus solfataricus binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit in all nucleotide-bound states [PDF]
HflX GTPases are found in all three domains of life, Bacteria, Archaea, and Eukaryotes. HflX from Escherichia coli has been shown to bind to the 50S ribosomal subunit in a nucleotide-dependent manner and this interaction strongly stimulates its GTPase ...

Endogenous cross-talk of fungal metabolites.
Non-ribosomal peptide synthesis in fungi requires a ready supply of proteogenic and non-proteogenic amino acids which are subsequently incorporated into the nascent non-ribosomal peptide via a thiotemplate mechanism catalysed by non-ribosomal peptide ...

Translophagy—A potential link between autophagy impairment and translational errors
Neurodegenerative diseases are characterised by the accumulation of abnormal proteins and protein aggregates, but their origin often remains unknown. We propose that selective autophagy removes damaged protein‐making machinery, preventing errors during protein synthesis.
