Fluctuations in glassy systems
We summarize a theoretical framework based on global time-reparametrization invariance that explains the origin of dynamic fluctuations in glassy systems. We introduce the main ideas without getting into much technical details.

From depinning transition to plastic yielding of amorphous media: A soft modes perspective [PDF]
A mesoscopic model of amorphous plasticity is discussed in the context of depinning models. After embedding in a d + 1 dimensional space, where the accumulated plastic strain lives along the additional dimension, the gradual plastic deformation of ...

ABSTRACT Background The management of clinically apparent single lesions or oligofocal nephroblastomatosis, a facultative precursor of nephroblastoma, remains debated. Methods We retrospectively analyzed 37 patients with clinically apparent single or oligofocal nephroblastomatosis (two to three lesions per kidney) among 2347 patients registered between

Localization of protein aggregation in Escherichia coli is governed by diffusion and nucleoid macromolecular crowding effect [PDF]
Aggregates of misfolded proteins are a hallmark of many age-related diseases. Recently, they have been linked to aging of Escherichia coli (E. coli) where protein aggregates accumulate at the old pole region of the aging bacterium.

ABSTRACT Purpose Pediatric central nervous system (CNS) tumors often recur despite multimodality therapy. Although re‐irradiation (re‐RT) has historically been limited by concerns for severe late toxicities, modern techniques have renewed interest in this approach. Proton therapy provides dosimetric advantages that may enable curative re‐treatment with

ABSTRACT Introduction Pre‐dilution online hemodiafiltration (Pre‐HDF) is predominantly used in Japan, whereas post‐dilution online HDF (Post‐HDF) is more common in Europe. An asymmetric cellulose triacetate (ATA) membrane may improve biocompatibility.

Fluorescence intermittency in blinking quantum dots: renewal or slow modulation?
We study time series produced by the blinking quantum dots, by means of an aging experiment, and we examine the results of this experiment in the light of two distinct approaches to complexity, renewal and slow modulation.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.
