Hepatotoxicity of Nonesterified Fatty Acids to Dairy Cows: Pathophysiological Mechanisms and Prospective Solutions

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Unregulated inflammation increases non‐esterified fatty acids (NEFAs), and triggers multi‐pathway hepatocyte damage including oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and metabolic disorders in dairy cows. ABSTRACT Circulating concentrations of nonesterified fatty acids (NEFAs) are elevated due to lipid mobilization from adipose tissue in ...

Specific methylation of plasma nonesterified fatty acids in a one-step reaction.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1988
Analysis of plasma nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) by gas-liquid chromatography requires procedures that are both lengthy and cumbersome. A 45-min direct methylation procedure was carried out at 24-29 degrees C on 150 microliter of plasma added with an ...

Effect of pegbovigrastim on fertility and culling in grazing dairy cows and its association with prepartum nonesterified fatty acids

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2022
: This randomized controlled trial on 4 commercial grazing dairy farms investigated whether treatment with pegbovigrastim (PEG) affected fertility and culling as measured during the full lactation. We also explored the effect of potential interactions of

Lemon balm extract causes potent antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemic effects in insulin-resistant obese mice

open access: yes, 2014
Over the last decades polyetiological metabolic diseases such as obesity and type 2 diabetes have emerged as a global epidemic. Efficient strategies for prevention and treatment include dietary intervention and the development of validated nutraceuticals.

PDE4D and PDE3B orchestrate distinct cAMP microdomains in 3T3‐L1 adipocytes

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Basal conditions: •Ins/PDE3B lowers cytoplasmic cAMP (cyt‐cAMP) without affecting plasma membrane cAMP (pm‐cAMP). •Insulin decreases lipid droplet cAMP (LD‐cAMP) independent of PDE3B. •FGF1/PDE4D modestly reduces both cyt‐ and pm‐cAMP, while PDE4D alone can modulate LD‐cAMP. ISO stimulation: •Ins/PDE3B has minimal impact on cyt‐cAMP.

Selective partitioning of dietary fatty acids into the VLDL TG pool in the early postprandial period

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2003
Circulating triacylglycerol (TG) arises mainly from dietary fat. However, little is known about the entry of dietary fat into the major TG pool, very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) TG. We used a novel method to study the specific incorporation of dietary

GLP‐1 agonists and the gut microbiome: A bidirectional relationship

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Volume 92, Issue 5, Page 1309-1325, May 2026.
Abstract Glucagon‐like peptide‐1 (GLP‐1) receptor agonists have transformed the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and obesity, yet their interactions with the gut microbiome remain an emerging frontier in pharmacological and metabolic research.

Cell-associated nonesterified fatty acid levels and their alteration during lipolysis in the isolated mouse adipose cell

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1973
A rapid and flexible method has been developed for measuring cell-associated, probably intracellular, nonesterified fatty acids (CAFA) in isolated mouse adipose cells. A variety of lipolytic agents as well as various concentrations of epinephrine elevate

Reduced Plasma Nonesterified Fatty Acid Levels and the Advent of an Acute Lung Injury in Mice after Intravenous or Enteral Oleic Acid Administration

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 2012
Although exerting valuable functions in living organisms, nonesterified fatty acids (NEFAs) can be toxic to cells. Increased blood concentration of oleic acid (OLA) and other fatty acids is detected in many pathological conditions.

Use of Metabotyping to Identify Individuals With Different Triglyceride Response Curves After Intake of High‐Fat Meals

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 70, Issue 9, 13 May 2026.
We applied a latent class mixed model to cluster individuals based on their postprandial triglyceride response curves after consumption of high‐fat meals. Three clusters with different triglyceride response patterns were identified. This approach holds the potential to be used for identifying metabolically dysfunctional individuals.
