Nonesterified fatty acids modulate steroidogenesis in mouse Leydig cells
The effects of nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) in modulating testosterone synthesis stimulated by luteinizing hormone (LH, 10 ng/sample) were investigated in isolated adult mouse Leydig cells.

Loss of KCNK16 in mice alters β‐cell insulin secretion dynamics leading to increased pancreatic insulin content and decreased circulating IGF‐1. Furthermore, body growth and adiposity were reduced independent of dietary interventions. Despite these changes, overall glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity remain largely preserved.

A rapid and flexible method has been developed for measuring cell-associated, probably intracellular, nonesterified fatty acids (CAFA) in isolated mouse adipose cells. A variety of lipolytic agents as well as various concentrations of epinephrine elevate

Nonesterified free fatty acids enhance the inflammatory response in renal tubules by inducing extracellular ATP release [PDF]
In proteinuric renal diseases, excessive plasma nonesterified free fatty acids bound to albumin can leak across damaged glomeruli to be reabsorbed by renal proximal tubular cells and cause inflammatory tubular cells damage by as yet unknown mechanisms ...

Effects of abomasal infusion of long chain fatty acids on intake, feeding behaviour and milk production in dairy cows [PDF]
Fat is often fed to dairy cows to increase the energy concentration of their diet; however, feeding fat often reduces dry matter intake (DMI), which limits its impact on metabolizable energy (ME) intake.

This study evaluated heat tolerance and biochemical and haematological responses of Holstein cows exposed to different environmental conditions (full sun or shade) and feeding regimens (with or without concentrate) in the semi‐arid region of Brazil. Sixteen adult cows were distributed across four treatments.

Circulating Non-Esterified Fatty Acids as Biomarkers for Fat Content and Composition in Pigs
Circulating non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) can reflect the composition of dietary fat or adipose tissues depending on the fasting conditions. Therefore, circulating NEFA may be valuable as biomarkers for meat quality traits, such as intramuscular fat ...

This study identifies G protein‐coupled receptor 17 (Gpr17) as a novel regulator of leptin and insulin sensitivity. Using complementary knockout models, we demonstrate that Gpr17 deletion enhances energy expenditure, restores leptin responsiveness, and improves insulin sensitivity, revealing Gpr17 as a potential therapeutic GPCR target for obesity and ...

Overestimation of Plasma Nonesterified Fatty Acid Concentrations in Heparinized Blood [PDF]
To the Editor: With much interest have we read the important study on the use of glucose-insulin-potassium (GIK) in diabetic patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting by Lazar and coworkers.1 A potential mechanism underlying the beneficial effect of GIK administration includes metabolic modulation of (post)ischemic myocardium.
