Flavivirus nonstructural protein NS1: Complementary surprises [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2006
The 1999 outbreak of mosquito-borne West Nile virus (WNV) in New York City (1) and its subsequent hemispheric spread by infected migratory birds have been met by urgency for new knowledge about this flavivirus. WNV is closely related to a number of other medically important flaviviruses that include the family's prototype, the storied yellow fever ...

SARS-CoV-2 Drug-Resistant Mutations in Non-Structural Proteins

open access: yesViruses
Various antiviral drug therapies have been developed for the treatment of coronaviruses, particularly SARS-CoV-2. However, the emergence of drug-resistant mutations is detrimental to clinical efficacy and global public health.

Replication Cycle and Molecular Biology of the West Nile Virus

open access: yesViruses, 2013
West Nile virus (WNV) is a member of the genus Flavivirus in the family Flaviviridae. Flaviviruses replicate in the cytoplasm of infected cells and modify the host cell environment.

Respiratory Syncytial Virus's Non-structural Proteins: Masters of Interference

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2020
Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is a highly prevalent virus that affects the majority of the population. The virus can cause severe disease in vulnerable populations leading to high hospitalization rates from bronchiolitis or secondary bacterial ...

Computational Chemistry to Repurposing Drugs for the Control of COVID-19

open access: yesBiologics, 2021
Thus far, in 2021, 219 countries with over 175 million people have been infected by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). SARS-CoV-2 is a positive sense, single-stranded RNA virus, and is the causal agent for coronavirus disease ...

Bovine coronavirus nonstructural protein ns2 is a phosphoprotein

open access: yesVirology, 1991
To investigate the nature of the bovine coronavirus (BCV) ns2 protein, the gene encoding this protein was cloned and was expressed as a beta-galactosidase fusion protein. Antiserum raised against this protein reacted specifically with BCV-infected fixed cells in indirect immunofluorescence microscopy and precipitated an in vitro synthesized product ...

Of Mice and Men and Cattle: Functions of the Pneumovirus Nonstructural Proteins NS1 and NS2 in Interferon Escape [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV), family Paramyxoviridae, subfamily Pneumovirinae, is a major etiological agent of respiratory tract disease in calves. A peculiarity of pneumoviruses is the presence of two unique nonstructural protein genes, NS1

Immune Modulatory Therapy for Severe Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever in a Patient With Mitochondrial Complex I Deficiency: A Case Report

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Dengue virus (DENV) poses a serious global health challenge, particularly in cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF). Patients with preexisting mitochondrial disorders may be at increased risk for complications due to the specific impact of DENV on mitochondrial‐dependent cellular processes and immune function.

Development of a Noninfectious Japanese Encephalitis Virus Replicon for Antiviral Drug Screening and Gene Function Studies

open access: yesViruses
Viral replicons are efficient tools to understand the mechanisms of viral replication and screen antiviral drugs. In this study, a viral-cDNA-based replicon of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), which is the causative agent of Japanese encephalitis, was ...

Duck Orbivirus and Egg Production: A Newly Identified Duck Orbivirus Is the Etiological Agent of Egg Production Decline in Chinese Breeder Ducks

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Field samples from breeder duck farms with egg‐production decline were subjected to viral detection, genome sequencing, and virus isolation. Experimental infection demonstrated that duck orbivirus (DORV) causes a significant and persistent reduction in egg production in breeder ducks.
