Noradrenergic therapies in neurodegenerative disease: from symptomatic to disease modifying therapy?
A feature shared by many different neurodegenerative diseases is early pathology and degeneration of the pontine locus coeruleus. The human locus coeruleus contains about 50 000 neurons and is the primary source of the neurotransmitter noradrenaline.

ABSTRACT The relationship between trauma and addictive behaviors is well‐established, yet factors mediating this relationship remain understudied. Given the prevalence of addictive behaviors among collegiate populations, we used path analysis to explore the mediating role of arousal dysregulation in the relationship between childhood trauma and a ...

The noradrenergic innervation of the ovary in old rats.
The influence of ageing on the noradrenergic innervation of the ovary was studied in female Wistar rats using high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) with electrochemical detection and catecholamine histofluorescence techniques.

Preclinical models for evaluating psychedelics in the treatment of major depressive disorder
Psychedelic drugs have seen a resurgence in interest as a next generation of psychiatric medicines with potential as rapid‐acting antidepressants (RAADs). Despite promising early clinical trials, the mechanisms which underlie the effects of psychedelics are poorly understood.

Abstract Background and Purpose Noise pollution, particularly by aircraft, is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Aircraft noise activates stress response pathways in the brain, via the amygdala, the sympathetic nervous system and the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis.

A Central Somatic Transmission Mediates Proprioceptive Facilitation of Muscle Pain
Zhang et al. uncover a novel central mechanism for persistent muscle pain, in which TRPA1 sensitization in MeV proprioceptive neurons enhances somatic secretion. This, in turn, disinhibits descending pain control from neighboring noradrenergic locus coeruleus neurons via local GABAergic circuits, thereby promoting inflammatory muscle pain.

A lifespan staging model of basal forebrain cholinergic vulnerability
Abstract The cholinergic neurons of the basal forebrain are among the most vulnerable cell types to age‐ and Alzheimer's disease‐related dysfunction and neurodegeneration. However, the biological bases of basal forebrain cholinergic vulnerability (the why) and the temporal sequence (the how) have yet to be fully resolved.
