Application of different concentrations of the natural dye potassium norbixinate (annatto) in polyamide 6.6 fabrics

open access: yesNatural Product Research, 2023
Polyamide fabrics were dyed with concentrations ranging from 4% to 0.25% (o.w.f.) of the natural dye, potassium norbixinate (annatto). The exhaustion, chromatic coordinates, colouristic intensity (K/S), and fastness to washing and rubbing were evaluated.

Biochemical behaviour of norbixin duringin vitroDNA damage induced by reactive oxygen species [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Journal of Nutrition, 2001
Naturally occurring antioxidants such as carotenoids are extensively studied for their potential in reducing the risk for cancer and other chronic diseases. In the present study, the radical-scavenger activity of the food additive norbixin, a water-soluble carotenoid extracted fromBixa orellanaseeds and commercialized as annatto, was evaluated under ...

Colorants in Cheese Manufacture: Production, Chemistry, Interactions, and Regulation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Colored Cheddar cheeses are prepared by adding an aqueous annatto extract (norbixin) to cheese milk; however, a considerable proportion (∼20%) of such colorant is transferred to whey, which can limit the end use applications of whey products.

Natural Carotenoids as Nanomaterial Precursors for Molecular Photovoltaics: A Computational DFT Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this work several natural carotenoids were studied as potential nanomaterial precursors for molecular photovoltaics. M05-2X/6-31+G(d,p) level of theory calculations were used to obtain their molecular structures, as well as to predict the infrared (IR)

Carotenoides bixina e norbixina extraídos do urucum (Bixa orellana L.) como antioxidantes em produtos cárneos Carotenoids bixin and norbixin from annatto (Bixa orellana L.) as antioxidants in meat products

open access: yes, 2016
Achiote (Bixa orellana) is a plant used for obtaining a natural dye rich on carotenoids (mainly bixin and norbixin); it is also the plant species with the highest content of tocotrienols in nature.

Application of Bixin Extract from Bixa orellana L. Seeds as a Natural Colorant in Compact Powder Eyeshadow Formulation [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Annatto seeds (Bixa orellana L.) contain natural pigments, namely bixin and norbixin. Bixin can produce a reddish-orange color, commonly used as a natural colorant in food, textiles, and cosmetics.

Structural planning, development and analysis of in silico pharmacokinetic properties of salicylic acid analogues for cosmetic purposes

open access: yesEstação Científica, 2017
Cosmetic formulations containing hydroxy acids (HAs) have been used in clinical practice for decades to treat a variety of skin conditions. Salicylic acid, the most prominent representative used in this class, has been used as an exfoliant or keratolytic
