Bixin, Norbixin and Quercetin and lipid metabolism effects in rabbits

open access: yes, 2001
Flavonoids have been isolated with several biological activities and there are correlations among the consumption of rich foods in flavonoids and heart diseases. The 7-glucosyl-apigenin, 7- bisulfate-apigenin, 7-glucosyl-luteolin, 7-bisulfate-luteolin flavonoids and bixin and norbixin were isolated from urucu seeds.

Bixin and Norbixin Have Opposite Effects on Glycemia, Lipidemia, and Oxidative Stress in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats

open access: yesInternational Journal of Endocrinology, 2014
The present study investigated the effects of oral administration of annatto carotenoids (bixin (BIX) and norbixin (NBIX)) on glucose levels, lipid profiles, and oxidative stress parameters in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats.

Biodegradable Sodium Alginate Films Incorporated With Microcapsules of Amazonian Buriti Fruit Oil ( Mauritia flexuosa L.)

open access: yesJournal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, Volume 102, Issue 9, Page 1289-1302, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Pollution caused by plastic polymers is a growing concern as it compromises biodiversity and human health. As a sustainable solution, developing biodegradable films, such as sodium alginate, is promising due to its low vapor permeability, flexibility, gloss, and cost‐effectiveness.

Development of an Optimized Green Extraction Method for the Recovery of the Biocolorant From Bixa orellana L. Seeds

open access: yesJournal of Food Processing and Preservation, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
The extraction of colorant from annatto seeds (Bixa orellana) is traditionally chemical based, requiring expensive equipment, which limits its feasibility for small‐scale food industries. This study is aimed at developing an optimized aqueous extraction method for red–orange biocolorant from B. orellana seeds using response surface methodology.

Prolycopene, a Naturally Occurring Stereoisomer of Lycopene [PDF]

open access: yes, 1941
In this paper we record the observation that there occurs in the variety of tomato called "tangerine tomato" a carotenoid, prolycopene, which is an isomer of lycopene; the isomeric relationship is similar to that between lycopene and neolycopene,I and in

Colloidal gas aphrons separation to obtain polyphenol rich fractions from artichoke agro-industrial discards [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Artichoke agro-industrial discards have proved an excellent source of polyphenolic compounds with high antioxidant capacity. The aim of this study was to further separate these bioactive molecules from an ethanolic extract by using Colloidal Gas Aphrons (

Immobilization of Peroxidases on Textile Carrier Materials and their Use in Bleaching Processes

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2016
The economical use of often high-priced enzymes in chemical synthesis can be improved by the immobilization of the catalyst on a suitable carrier. Particularly some synthetic or natural textile fiber materials such as polyester, polyamide or viscose are ...

STUDI METODE-METODE EKSTRAKSI PEWARNA MAKANAN ALAMI ANNATTO DARI BIJI KESUMBA (Bixa orellana)

open access: yesReaktor, 2012
Annatto is natural food colorant extracted from Bixa orellana seeds. The main constituent of annatto is bixin, a carotenoid having carboxylic acid groups at both ends of its molecular chain and one of these is methyl-esterified.
