Outcomes of normothermic machine perfusion of liver grafts in repeat liver transplantation (NAPLES initiative).

open access: yes, 2022
BACKGROUND Retransplantation candidates are disadvantaged owing to lack of good-quality liver grafts. Strategies that can facilitate transplantation of suboptimal grafts into retransplant candidates require investigation.

Infection with the Neorickettsial Organism Stellantchasmus falcatus Agent in an Arctic Fox (Vulpes lagopus)

open access: yesVeterinary Clinical Pathology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 1‐year‐old female‐intact arctic fox (Vulpes lagopus) presented for diarrhea, lethargy, severe thrombocytopenia, and hyperbilirubinemia. Blood film evaluation revealed intracytoplasmic coccoid bacteria within moderate numbers of leukocytes consistent with infection by a rickettsial organism.

Normothermic ex vivo kidney perfusion preserves mitochondrial and graft function after warm ischemia and is further enhanced by AP39

open access: yesNature Communications
We previously reported that normothermic ex vivo kidney  perfusion (NEVKP) is superior in terms of organ protection compared to static cold storage (SCS), which is still the standard method of organ preservation, but the mechanisms are incompletely ...

Normothermic Crystalloid Polarizing Cardioplegia Improves Systolic and Diastolic Function in a Porcine Model of Cardiopulmonary Bypass

open access: yesBiomedicines
Background/Objectives: Previously, we showed that blood-based polarizing cardioplegia exerted beneficial cardioprotection during hypothermic ischemia; however, these positive effects of blood-based polarizing cardioplegia were reduced during normothermic

Use of Intralipid Therapy and Therapeutic Plasma Exchange in the Management of Cholecalciferol Rodenticide Exposure in a Dog: A Case Report

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To describe the presentation and outcome of a case of suspected cholecalciferol rodenticide intoxication managed with both intralipid emulsion (ILE) and therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE). Case Summary A 3‐year‐old, neutered female, crossbreed dog presented for acute‐onset vomiting and lethargy after suspected exposure to ...

Mild hypothermia pretreatment improves hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury: A systematic review and meta-analysis of animal experiments.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Background and aimMild hypothermia in hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury is increasingly being studied. This study aimed to conduct a systematic evaluation of the effectiveness of mild hypothermia in improving hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury ...

Serum Baclofen Concentrations in Four Dogs With Baclofen Toxicosis Treated With In‐Series Carbon Hemoperfusion and Hemodialysis

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To report serum baclofen concentrations before, during, and after in‐series carbon hemoperfusion (cHP) and hemodialysis (HD) in four dogs with severe baclofen toxicosis. Series Summary This series involves four dogs with serum samples collected before, during, and after in‐series cHP/HD.

Differential intestinal injury and unchanged systemic inflammatory responses to leg and whole‐body passive hyperthermia in healthy humans

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Hyperthermia can cause intestinal injury, facilitating endotoxin translocation and an inflammatory response that has been associated with heat illness. However, the potential occurrence of these responses has been incompletely reported during passive hyperthermia, and the independent effect of hyperthermia is equivocal.

Passive thigh heating improves peak force production in younger adults and early isokinetic force production in younger and older adults

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Older adults often suffer from reduced physical capability relative to young adults, in part due to impaired muscle function. This study investigated the ergogenic effects of passive thigh heating on knee extensor torque production in healthy older versus younger adults.
