Cytokine release during normothermic kidney perfusion – a scoping review.

open access: yes, 2022
This scoping review investigates the currently knowledge on the evolution of perfusate and urine cytokine concentrations and gene expression during normothermic perfusion of pig or human ...

A Cardioprotective perfusion protocol limits myocardial functional decline during ex situ heart perfusion

open access: yesJHLT Open
Background: Ex situ heart perfusion is associated with a significant decline in graft quality related to oxidative stress, inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and metabolic perturbations.

48 h Normothermic Machine Perfusion With Urine Recirculation for Discarded Human Kidney Grafts

open access: yesTransplant International, 2023
Normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) has reshaped organ preservation in recent years. In this preclinical study, prolonged normothermic perfusions of discarded human kidney grafts were performed in order to investigate perfusion dynamics and identify ...

Reduced HSP70 expression under mild hypothermia is involved in bovine embryo growth suppression

open access: yesThe Journal of Reproduction and Development
Bovine blastocysts cultured under mild hypothermia (MH) can be maintained with non-hatching viable embryos compared to normothermic controls (38.5°C).

Torpor‐assisted migration: Regular use of shallow torpor reduces rest‐phase energy expenditure for songbirds during migration

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Migrating songbirds regularly use shallow torpor (up to 98% of birds for some species) to save energy (up to 42%) during inactive periods. This Ruby‐crowned Kinglet Corthylio calendula that was captured after a spring snowstorm highlights the value of being able to save energy when encountering unfavourable conditions.

Dual acellular subnormothermic machine perfusion for enhanced uterus preservation in a swine model

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
In a porcine uterus transplantation model, subnormothermic machine perfusion reduced graft edema and better‐preserved post‐reperfusion contractility than static cold storage, highlighting its potential for uterus preservation, assessment, and future graft‐conditioning applications.

The impact of short-term machine perfusion on the risk of cancer recurrence after rat liver transplantation with donors after circulatory death.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Hypothermic and normothermic ex vivo liver perfusions promote organ recovery after donation after circulatory death (DCD). We tested whether these perfusions can reduce the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) recurrence in a 1h-DCD syngeneic ...

Texture Analysis Using Indocyanine Green Fluorescence Measurement During Porcine Hypothermic Oxygenated Machine Perfusion

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
A novel quantitative method using Indocyanine Green (ICG) fluorescence image for assessing organ viability during hypothermic oxygenated machine perfusion (HOPE), specifically focusing on homogeneous flow distribution analyzed with the gray‐scale level co‐occurrence matrix (GLCM) method, can predict portal vein resistance induced by ischemic ...

The osborn wave of hypothermeia in normothermic patients [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, 1994
AbstractThe Osborn wave (also referred to as “the J wave,” “the J deflection,” or “the camel's hump”) is a distinctive deflection occurring at the QRS‐ST junction of approximately 80% of hypothermic patients (core body temperature ≤95°F). Generally, the amplitude and duration of Osborn waves are inversely related to core temperature. We report on eight

Monitoring Mitochondrial Function With High‐Resolution Respirometry During Ex‐Situ Heart Perfusion

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Normothermic ESHP preserves mitochondrial respiratory function over 6 h in a porcine model (n = 6): OXPHOS capacities across NADH‐, fatty‐acid‐, and succinate‐linked pathways remain stable, with reduced cytochrome‐c control efficiency indicating improved outer‐membrane integrity. HRR provides a rapid, actionable readout for organ assessment.
