The SW Sex-type star 2MASS J01074282+4845188: an unusual bright accretion disk with non-steady emission and a hot white dwarf

open access: yes, 2013
We present new photometric and spectral observations of the newly discovered nova-like eclipsing star 2MASS J01074282+4845188. To obtain a light curve solution we used model of a nova-like star whose emission sources are a white dwarf surrounded by an ...

Dietary Polyphenol Intake in Relation to Ultra-Processed Food Consumption in a Mediterranean Population-Based Cohort: Findings from the Moli-Sani Study

open access: yesProceedings
Background and objectives: Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) have been consistently associated with the increased risk of premature mortality and diseases in numerous cohorts worldwide, possibly due to their poor nutritional composition.

Targeting TNBC: core–shell polycationic polyurea dendrimers with inherent anticancer activity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Core–shell polycationic PURE dendrimers were tested in TNBC‐derived tumor models. Both formulations selectively targeted TNBC and effectively reduced tumor volume. PUREG4‐OEI48 suppressed tumor growth without detectable toxicity, whereas PUREG4‐OCEI24, despite showing efficacy, induced hepatic toxicity.

Constraining the GRB Collimation with a Survey for Orphan Afterglows

open access: yes, 2006
Gamma-ray bursts are believed to be produced in highly-relativistic collimated outflows. Support for this comes among others from the association of the times of detected breaks in the decay of afterglow light curves with the collimation angle of the ...

Characterization of Dwarf Novae Using SDSS Colors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We have developed a method for estimating the orbital periods of dwarf novae from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) colors in quiescence using an artificial neural network.

Differential Item Functioning on the Patient Health Questionnaire 8 by Disease Subtype, Language, Sex, and Age Among People With Systemic Sclerosis: A Scleroderma Patient‐Centered Intervention Network Cohort Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Somatic items used in depression assessments can potentially overlap with symptoms related to physical illness, including systemic sclerosis (SSc). No studies have looked at whether somatic depression items may be influenced by diffuse versus limited SSc disease subtypes, which are associated with varying degrees of symptom presentation.

Developing and Evaluating a Laboratory‐Based Frailty Index (FI‐Lab) for the Prediction of Long‐Term Health Outcomes in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, Accepted Article.
Objective We aimed to construct and evaluate the first laboratory‐based frailty index (FI‐Lab) for predicting adverse outcomes in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and to compare its predictive ability to that of an existing clinical frailty index (FI).

TransformerCVN: Convolution Transformers for NOvA Event and Particle Classification

open access: yes, 2022
NOvA is a long-baseline neutrino experiment studying neutrino oscillations with Fermilab’s NuMI beam. The experiment consists of two functionally identical detectors formed from plastic extrusions filled with a liquid scintillator. Convolution networks have previously been used to determine neutrino flavor in both the near and far detectors and observe
