Nucleoside Diphosphate-Sugar 4-Epimerases [PDF]

open access: bronzePlant Physiology, 1970
Uridine diphosphate (UDP)-arabinose 4-epimerase (EC 5.1.3.5) has been purified at least 20-fold from wheat germ by MnCl(2) treatment, (NH(4))(2)SO(4) fractionation, dialysis, and Sephadex and diethylaminoethyl cellulose column chromatography. The enzyme has no action on UDP-d-glucose, UDP-d-glucuronic acid, or TDP-d-glucose. The pH optimum is 8.0.

Nucleoside Diphosphate Sugar-Starch Glucosyl Transferase Activity of wx Starch Granules [PDF]

open access: bronzePlant Physiology, 1978
Starch granule preparations from the endosperm tissue of all waxy maize (Zea mays L.) mutants tested have low and approximately equal capability to incorporate glucose from adenosine diphosphate glucose into starch. As the substrate concentration is reduced, however, the activity of waxy preparations relative to nonmutant increases until, at the lowest

Variety of Nucleotide Sugar Transporters with Respect to the Interaction with Nucleoside Mono- and Diphosphates [PDF]

open access: hybridJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2007
Nucleotide sugar transporters have long been assumed to be antiporters that exclusively use nucleoside monophosphates as antiport substrates. Here we present evidence indicating that two other types of nucleotide sugar transporters exist that differ in their antiport substrate specificity. Biochemical studies using microsomes derived from Saccharomyces

Structural and Enzymatic Characterization of a Nucleoside Diphosphate Sugar Hydrolase from Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus

open access: goldPLOS ONE, 2015
Given the broad range of substrates hydrolyzed by Nudix (nucleoside diphosphate linked to X) enzymes, identification of sequence and structural elements that correctly predict a Nudix substrate or characterize a family is key to correctly annotate the myriad of Nudix enzymes. Here, we present the structure determination and characterization of Bd3179 --

Nucleoside Diphosphate Sugar Hydrolase Gene of Salmonella typhimurium : Chromosomal Location Determined by Intergeneric Crosses [PDF]

open access: bronzeJournal of Bacteriology, 1979
The gene specifying a membrane-bound nucleoside diphosphate sugar hydrolase of Salmonella typhimurium was mapped near the metA locus by using intergeneric crosses between this bacterium and Escherichia coli .

Changes in enzymic activities of nucleoside diphosphate sugar interconversions during differentiation of cambium to xylem in sycamore and poplar [PDF]

open access: hybridBiochemical Journal, 1977
During the transition from primary wall formation to secondary thickening there is a marked shift in the synthesis of pectin, hemicellulose and cellulose. The activities of the enzymes [UDP-D-galactose 4-epimerase (EC 5.1.3.2)8 UDP-l-arabinose 4-epimerase (EC 5.1.3.5), UDP-D-glucose dehydrogenase (EC 1.1.1.22) and UDP-D--glucuronate decarboxylase (EC 4.

Synthesis of glycopyranosylphosphonate analogs of certain natural nucleoside diphosphate sugars as potential inhibitors of glycosyltransferases

open access: greenJournal of Medicinal Chemistry, 1987
The synthesis of alpha-D-glucopyranosyl-, alpha-D-galactopyranosyl-, and alpha-D-mannopyranosylphosphonate is described. Condensation of tris(trimethylsilyl) phosphite with 2,3,4,6-tetrakis-O-(phenylmethyl)-1-O-acetyl-alpha-D-glucopyranose generated 2,3,4,6-tetrakis-O-(phenylmethyl)-alpha-D-glucopyranosylphosphonic acetic anhydride (13).

Nucleotides: Structure and Properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Nucleotides consist of a nitrogen-containing base, a five-carbon sugar, and one or more phosphate groups. Cells contain many types of nucleotides, which play a central role in a wide variety of cellular processes, including metabolic regulation and the ...
