The Nutrient Density of Snacks [PDF]
Background: Although Americans receive almost a quarter of their daily energy from snacks, snacking remains a poorly defined and understood eating occasion. However, there is little dietary guidance about choosing snacks. Families, clinicians, and researchers need a comprehensive approach to assessing their nutritional value. Objective: To quantify and

Validation of the Nutrient-Rich Foods Index Estimated by 24-hour Dietary Recall Method in Chinese Mid-Eastern Adults [PDF]
Abstract ObjectivesThe Nutrient-Rich Foods (NRF) Index is an important nutrient profiling model. Nutrition quality indices need to be tested and validated against the quality of the total diet and against health outcomes. A family of NRF indices was validated against the mean adequacy ratio (MAR), an overall measure of the nutrient adequacy ...

AbstractObjective:A family of nutrient-rich food (NRF) indices was validated against the mean adequacy ratio (MAR) and their associations with obesity were tested.Design:Cross-sectional study. NRF indices include nutrients to encourage ranging from 6–11 (protein; fibre; vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin E and vitamin B12; Ca; Fe; K; Mg; Zn) and two ...

Nutrient Rich Food Index categorization of foods aligns with nutrient content claim criteria
The Nutrient Rich Food Index is calculated as the sum of the Daily Values (DV) of nine nutrients to encourage (protein; fiber; vitamins A, C, and E; Ca; Mg; Fe; K) minus the sum of the DV of three nutrients to limit (saturated fat, Na, and added sugars DV=50) per 100 calories.

Background: The nutrients-rich food (NRF) index provides a score of diet quality. Although high diet quality is associated with survival of ovarian cancer (OC), the associations between NRF index scores and OC survival remain unevaluated. Methods: The prospective cohort study enrolled 703 women with newly diagnosed epithelial OC to assess the ...
