Folding, misfolding, and regulation of intracellular traffic of G protein‐coupled receptors involved in the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background G protein‐coupled receptors are a large and functionally diverse family of membrane receptors involved in a number of biological processes. Like other proteins, G protein‐coupled receptors need to be properly folded in order to traffic to the plasma membrane and interact with agonist.

Development and Reproduction of Nesidiocoris tenuis Reuter (Heteroptera: Miridae): The Effect of Temperature, Origin and Food

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Nymphal development took longer at 25°C than 30°C, and the Greek N. tenuis population developed more slowly than the commercial population. Nymphs clearly preferred E. kuehniella eggs over Artemia sp. cysts when both were offered equally. Egg production increased at 30°C, while female longevity declined.

Genome‐wide and gene‐specific DNA methylation across developmental stages in Pogonomyrmex californicus: A socially polymorphic ant

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, EarlyView.
Comparison between developmental stages (larvae, pupae, worker) in Pogonomyrmex californicus revealed significant stage‐specific differences in Gene Body Methylated frequencies. Methylation sites were highly correlated between WGBS and ONT in P. californicus Genome‐wide methylation was low (~3%) and highly clustered within gene bodies (GBM), especially

Construction of a Biohybrid Odorant Sensor Using Biological Olfactory Receptors Embedded into Bilayer Lipid Membrane on a Chip.

open access: yesACS Sensors, 2019
This paper describes an odorant sensor based on mosquito olfactory receptors (ORs) that is sensitive to the volatile organic compound octenol. The ORs and OR coreceptors were reconstructed in the lipid bilayer membrane in a chamber device equipped with ...

Genome and transcriptome‐based identification and expression profiling of chemosensory gene families across developmental stages and tissues in Sirex noctilio (Hymenoptera: Siricidae)

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, EarlyView.
The first draft genome of Sirex noctilio was produced. Fifteen S. noctilio transcriptomes were sequenced to study chemosensory gene expression patterns. SnocOR16 and SnocSNMP1 displayed tissue‐ and sex‐specific expression patterns. Abstract The Sirex woodwasp (Sirex noctilio; Hymenoptera: Siricidae) is among the most destructive invasive pests ...

Functional analysis of Orco and odorant receptors in odor recognition in Aedes albopictus

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2016
Aedes albopictus is a globally invasive mosquito and a major vector of arboviruses, including dengue, Zika and Chikungunya. Olfactory-related behaviors, particularly host-seeking, offer opportunities to disrupt the disease-transmission process.

Shifts in type 2 vomeronasal receptor expression during postnatal development in the lungfish olfactory organ

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
Lungfish possess a lamellar OE and a primitive VNO called as a recess epithelium (RecE). Among the lungfish V2Rs expressed in both the lamellar OE and the RecE in small individuals, some became restricted to the RecE in large individuals. These results suggest functional separation between the lamellar OE and the RecE is still incomplete in juveniles ...

Odorant receptors of Drosophila are sensitive to the molecular volume of odorants

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
Which properties of a molecule define its odor? This is a basic yet unanswered question regarding the olfactory system. The olfactory system of Drosophila has a repertoire of approximately 60 odorant receptors.

Calmodulin Affects Sensitization of Drosophila melanogaster Odorant Receptors

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2016
Flying insects have developed a remarkably sensitive olfactory system to detect faint and turbulent odor traces. This ability is linked to the olfactory receptors class of odorant receptors (ORs), occurring exclusively in winged insects.

Evaluation of the DREAM Technique for a High-Throughput Deorphanization of Chemosensory Receptors in Drosophila

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2018
In the vinegar fly Drosophila melanogaster, the majority of olfactory receptors mediating the detection of volatile chemicals found in their natural habitat have been functionally characterized (deorphanized) in vivo. In this process, receptors have been
