Rhodium(II) Porphyrins: Unusual Transition States and the Quest for Catalytic Turnover

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 18, Issue 7, 14 April 2026.
Rh(II) porphyrin metalloradicals can homolytically cleave strong bonds via intriguing multi‐component transition states. Their use in catalysis has been hampered, however, by a tendency to form thermodynamically stable Rh(III) intermediates. This Concept article highlights different strategies that can unlock the latent potential of Rh(II) porphyrin ...

Vertebrate community composition and activity at giant otter latrines in the northern Pantanal

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Mustelids and other terrestrial carnivores use communal latrines where feces and urine serve as olfactory cues for territory demarcation and intraspecific communication. These strong scent cues may also influence the broader vertebrate community, either acting as an attractant for species in search of food or as a warning of predator presence.

Long COVID following SARS‐CoV‐2 infection during pregnancy: An observational study in a large Italian hospital during the COVID‐19 pandemic

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, Volume 105, Issue 4, Page 604-612, April 2026.
Among 348 women infected with SARS‐CoV‐2 during pregnancy, 27% developed Long COVID. Risk factors included preexisting respiratory comorbidities, pneumonia, and earlier pregnancy stage. Vaccination significantly reduced this risk and altered symptom patterns, supporting its protective role and emphasizing the importance of preventive strategies for ...

Communication between Porphyrin Rings in the Butadiyne-Bridged Dimer Ni(OEP)(μ-C4)Ni(OEP):  A Density Functional Study

open access: yesInorganic Chemistry, 1996
The electronic structure and spectra of a family of nickel porphyrin complexes are analyzed using approximate density functional theory (DFT). The three complexes, Ni(OEP), Ni(OEP-CSiMe), and Ni(OEP)(μ-C)Ni(OEP) represent a logical increase in complexity starting from a simple metalloporphyrin.
