Omega-3 fatty acids and dementia [PDF]

open access: yesProstaglandins, Leukotrienes and Essential Fatty Acids, 2009
More than a dozen epidemiological studies have reported that reduced levels or intake of omega-3 fatty acids or fish consumption is associated with increased risk for age-related cognitive decline or dementia such as Alzheimer's disease (AD). Increased dietary consumption or blood levels of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) appear protective for AD and other ...

Balanced Expression of the Diiron Oxygenase BioE Is Essential for Biotin Homeostasis in Elizabethkingia meningoseptica

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
BioE is a new diiron oxygenase that catalyzes the conversion of long‐chain acyl groups into pimeloyl thioester, initiating biotin synthesis. The overexpression of EmBioE disrupts lipid metabolic homeostasis, requiring repressor BioL to maintain a balance between long‐chain fatty acids and biotin synthesis.

Dietary omega-3 fatty acids aid in the modulation of inflammation and metabolic health

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 2011
This article focuses on the role of omega-3 fatty acids as precursors for lipid signaling molecules known as oxylipins. Although omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial in autoimmune disorders, inflammatory diseases and heart disease, they are generally ...

Conformable Device for Independent Measurements of Mucosal and Vascular Barriers in a Complex In Vitro Intestinal Model

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Development of more complex in vitro models necessitates the development of improved monitoring approaches. This work demonstrates a novel conformable device capable of measuring the resistance of two cell barriers within a single model independently, a significant advantage over conventional trans‐epithelial/endothelial electrical resistance (TEER ...

The Gut Microbiota Regulates Motor Deficits via Butyrate in a Gnal+/− Mouse Model of DYT25 Dystonia

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The present study provides compelling evidence for a modulatory role of the gut microbiota in the pathology of DYT25 dystonia, and butyrate supplementation alleviates the motor deficits of dystonia in Gnal+/− mice. Abstract Dystonia is the third most common movement disorder, following essential tremor and Parkinson's disease. The underlying mechanisms

Evaluation of Omega-3 fatty acids in management of trigeminal neuralgia

open access: yesJournal of Indian Academy of Oral Medicine and Radiology, 2018
Background: Trigeminal neuralgic (TN) pain has been known as the world's worst pain. Omega-3 fatty acids have been recently studied extensively in neuralgic pain. Carbamazepine has been known to be the first drug of choice in treating TN pain.

Fibrates Inhibit PLTP‐induced M2 Macrophage Infiltration and Increase the Sensitivity of Hepatocellular Carcinoma to ICIs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phospholipid transfer protein(PLTP) plays a critical role in forming a complex with kinase A (AURKA) and P65. This interaction facilitates phosphorylation of P65 at Ser536, leading to the activation of the NF‐κB signaling pathway. Ultimately, this leads to the upregulation of downstream cytokines, including IL‐6, IL‐8, and CSF‐1, which promotes M2 ...

Correlation of omega-3 levels in serum phospholipid from 2053 human blood samples with key fatty acid ratios

open access: yesNutrition Journal, 2009
Background This research was conducted to explore the relationships between the levels of omega-3 fatty acids in serum phospholipid and key fatty acid ratios including potential cut-offs for risk factor assessment with respect to coronary heart disease ...
