High prevalence of avian adapted CC5 Staphylococcus aureus isolates in poultry meat in Spain: food chain as vehicle of MRSA and MSSA CC398‐t1451

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Science &Technology, Volume 59, Issue 12, Page 9180-9188, December 2024.
The food chain can be a vehicle for the transmission of Staphylococcus aureus clonal lineages associated with animals such as CC5 (mainly associated with poultry) and CC398 (mainly with pigs). Summary Staphylococcus aureus can cause food poisoning and human infections and CC5 and CC398 are relevant lineages in the animal‐human interface.

Genetic environment of the transferable oxazolidinone/phenicol resistance geneoptrAinEnterococcus faecalisisolates of human and animal origin [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy, 2016
Aim of this study was to analyse 17 non-related Enterococcus faecalis isolates of human and animal origin for the genetic environment of the novel oxazolidinone/phenicol resistance gene optrA.WGS and de novo assembly were conducted to analyse the flanking sequences of the optrA gene in the 17 E. faecalis isolates.

Daily occupational exposure in swine farm alters human skin microbiota and antibiotic resistome

open access: yesiMeta, Volume 3, Issue 1, February 2024.
We show that occupational exposure in a livestock environment dynamically reshaped the skin microbiome and resistome. This remodeling effect can take place within hours and the acquired pathogens and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) have the potential to expand to the general population using farm workers as an ARG vector.

Prevalence and molecular epidemiology of optrA-positive Enterococcus in herders and yaks from high-altitude Tibet, China

open access: yesJournal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance
: Objectives: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in high-altitude environments remains understudied despite its growing global concern. This study investigates the molecular epidemiology of the optrA gene, which confers resistance to oxazolidinones and ...

Wild Birds as Drivers of Salmonella Braenderup and Multidrug Resistant Bacteria in Wetlands of Northern Italy

open access: yesTransboundary and Emerging Diseases, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
In this study, the antimicrobial resistance profiles of bacterial strains obtained from wild avian species recovered in wetlands of Northern Italy were described. Cloacal swabs collected from 67 aquatic birds, hunted or found dead in two private hunting grounds, were submitted to microbiological investigations and antimicrobial susceptibility testing ...

Whole genome sequence of Enterococcus gallinarum EG81, a porcine strain harbouring the oxazolidinone-phenicol resistance gene optrA with chromosomal and plasmid location

open access: yesJournal of Global Antimicrobial Resistance, 2020
Objective: The aim of this study was to characterise the whole genome sequence of linezolid-intermediate Enterococcus gallinarum strain EG81 of swine origin in China. Methods: Whole genome of EG81 was sequenced using Illumina MiSeq platform combined with
