DomainScope: A disease network based on protein domain connections [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Protein domains are highly conserved functional units of proteins. Because they carry functionally significant information, the majority of the coding disease variants are located on domains. Additionally, domains are specific units of the proteins that can be targeted for drug delivery purposes.

Low‐Irradiance Antimicrobial Blue Light‐Bathing Therapy for Wound Infection Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial blue light has been shown as an appealing non‐pharmacological antimicrobial alternative. However, its clinical applications have been hindered by high irradiance‐associated photothermal risks. In this work, a low‐irradiance blue light‐bathing concept and a wearable photonic wound patch are established to address this challenge in terms of

Mebendazole spectrophotometric determination: theorical and experimental study of the interaction with sodium hydroxide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
USP, EP, and Argentinian Pharmacopoeia proposed HPLC-UV for quantitative quality control of mebendazole (MBZ) tablets. In this work, a spectrophotometric method is proposed.

Tumoroid Model Reveals Synergistic Impairment of Metabolism by Iron Chelators and Temozolomide in Chemo‐Resistant Patient‐derived Glioblastoma Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates the metabolic vulnerabilities of glioblastoma (GBM), an aggressive brain tumor. Research demonstrates that iron chelation therapy, in combination with standard chemotherapy, significantly enhances the efficacy of treatment against resistant GBM cells in a 3D tumoroid model.

Depletion of Hepatic SREBP2 Protects Against Hypercholesterolemia and Atherosclerosis through the ANGPTL3‐LPL Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals a novel crosstalk between hepatic SREBP2‐mediated cholesterol biosynthesis pathway and peripheral lipoprotein lipase‐mediated lipolysis pathway in the regulation of systemic lipid metabolism. Notably, the lipid‐lowering effects of SREBP2 inhibition are independent of a functional LDL receptor, highlighting the potential of acute ...

Stability Criteria for SIS Epidemiological Models under Switching Policies [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
We study the spread of disease in an SIS model. The model considered is a time-varying, switched model, in which the parameters of the SIS model are subject to abrupt change. We show that the joint spectral radius can be used as a threshold parameter for this model in the spirit of the basic reproduction number for time-invariant models.

Orbital Myositis With Lyme Disease

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Ophthalmology, 1990
We examined, treated, and followed up for nine years a 5-year-old girl with active Lyme disease and orbital myositis. Clinically, the patient demonstrated typical symptoms for each of the major stages of Lyme disease, including fever, erythema chronicum migrans, aseptic meningitis, Bell's palsy, and arthritis.

Self‐Catalyzed Chemically Coalescing Liquid Metal Emulsions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A new type of liquid metal emulsion is developed that chemically activates and becomes electrically conductive under mild thermal stimulus. The activation mechanism occurs through a unique set of catalytic dehalogenation and chemical oxide etching reactions. These emulsions are 3D printable and exhibit high shape retention after being heated.
