Orexin A and orexin B are hypothalamic neuropeptides that were discovered in 1998. Several studies suggested that orexin deficiency causes narcolepsy in humans and other mammalian species, highlighting roles of this hypothalamic neuropeptide in the regulation of sleep and wakefulness.
