The Antiviral Activity of Polyphenols

open access: yesMolecular Nutrition &Food Research, Volume 69, Issue 15, August 2025.
Polyphenols demonstrate remarkable antiviral properties by effectively disrupting multiple biochemical processes essential for viral replication. ABSTRACT Polyphenols are secondary metabolites produced by a large variety of plants. These compounds that comprise the class of phenolic acids, stilbenes, lignans, coumarins, flavonoids, and tannins have a ...

The SARS coronavirus accessory protein ORF3a rescues potassium conductance in yeast.

open access: yesmicroPublication biology
ORF3a is an accessory protein expressed by all human pathogen coronaviruses and is the only accessory protein that strongly affects viral fitness. Its deletion reduces severity in both alpha- and beta-coronaviruses, demonstrating a conserved function across the superfamily.

Structural bioinformatics analysis of the SARS-COV-2 proteome evolution to characterize the emerging variants of the virus and to suggest possible therapeutic strategies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
SARS-CoV-2 is a new coronavirus responsible for the global COVID-19 pandemic, detected in China in December 2019 and that has spread rapidly across the world. Our unit, with its specific expertise in structural bioinformatics and molecular modelling, has

Skrining Senyawa dari Tanaman Rhodomyrtus tomentosa (Aiton) Hassk terhadap SARS-CoV-2 ORF3a

open access: yesJurnal Surya Medika, 2021
The ORF3a protein from SARS-CoV has functions in terms of ion channel activity, modulates the trafficking properties of SARS-CoV spike (S) protein, increases fibrinogen expression in pulmonary epithelial cells, and induces apoptosis. So that research is needed to overcome the ORF3a experiment.

Rewiring the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV) transcription circuit: Engineering a recombination-resistant genome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Live virus vaccines provide significant protection against many detrimental human and animal diseases, but reversion to virulence by mutation and recombination has reduced appeal.

Metabolic and mitochondria alterations induced by SARS-CoV-2 accessory proteins ORF3a, ORF9b, ORF9c and ORF10 [PDF]

open access: yes
Antiviral signaling, immune response and cell metabolism are dysregulated by SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of COVID-19. Here, we show that SARS-CoV-2 accessory proteins ORF3a, ORF9b, ORF9c and ORF10 induce a significant mitochondrial and metabolic ...
