Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Scientific Opinion on application (EFSA-GMO-BE-2011-101) for the placing on the market of herbicide-tolerant genetically modified oilseed rape MON 88302 for food and feed uses, import and processing under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 from Monsanto [PDF]

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2014
Oilseed rape MON 88302 was developed by Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformation to express the CP4 EPSPS protein, which confers tolerance to glyphosate.

Scientific Opinion on the assessment of potential impacts of genetically modified plants on non-target organisms

open access: yes, 2010
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) asked the Panel on Genetically Modified Organisms to establish a self-tasking Working Group with the aim of (1) producing a scientific review of the current guidance of the GMO Panel for Environmental Risk ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

The ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy as guardians of the cellular proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This Perspective covers the three principles governing the crosstalk between the ubiquitin‐proteasome system and autophagy in cellular proteostasis: (1) a shared ubiquitin code routing substrates via shuttle factors or autophagy receptors; (2) spatial compartmentalization into phase‐separated degradation hubs and organelle‐specific modules (exemplified

Cytokinin-GLK regulatory module promotes the acquisition of photosynthetic activity and cell cycle re-entry in a green-flower mutant of Narcissus tazetta var. chinensis

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Floral organs typically function as heterotrophic tissues, heavily reliant on imported photoassimilates for respiration and development. However, under specific genetic or environmental conditions, they can reacquire photosynthetic capabilities. Here, we

Scientific Opinion on application (EFSA‐GMO‐NL‐2008‐52) for the placing on the market of herbicide tolerant genetically modified soybean A5547‐127 for food and feed uses, import and processing under Regulation (EC) No 1829–2003 from Bayer CropScience

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2011
This scientific opinion is an evaluation of a risk assessment for the genetically modified herbicide tolerant soybean A5547‐127 for food and feed uses, import and processing. Soybean A5547‐127 was developed through particle bombardment.

Scientific Opinion on application (EFSA-GMO-UK-2008-53) for the placing on the market of herbicide tolerant genetically modified maize 98140 for food and feed uses, import and processing under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 from Pioneer Overseas Corporation [PDF]

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2013
Maize 98140 contains a single insert consisting of the gat4621 and the Zm-hra expression cassettes, providing herbicide tolerance. Bioinformatic analyses and genetic stability studies did not raise safety issues.

Genetically Modified Organisms and Visceral Leishmaniasis [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2014
Vaccination is the most effective method of preventing infectious diseases. Since the eradication of small pox in 1976, many other potentially life compromising if not threatening diseases have been dealt with subsequently. This event was a major leap not only in the scientific world already burdened with many diseases but also in the mindset of the ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.
