Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Genetically Modified Organisms Can Be Organic

open access: yesNutrition Today, 2021
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) or genetically modified technology is currently considered an “excluded method” not allowed to be used in, or added to, organic agricultural products under the US Code of Federal Regulations. Despite evidence that GMOs may serve as a safe alternative to conventional crops, they are frequently associated with ...

Scientific Opinion on application (EFSA-GMO-NL-2010-87) for the placing on the market of genetically modified herbicide tolerant oilseed rape GT73 for food containing or consisting of, and food produced from or containing ingredients produced from, oilseed rape GT73 (with the exception of refined oil and food additives) under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 from Monsanto [PDF]

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2013
This scientific opinion is a risk assessment for the placing on the market of the genetically modified (GM) herbicide-tolerant oilseed rape (OSR) GT73 for food containing or consisting of, and food produced from or containing ingredients produced from ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Scientific Opinion on application (EFSA‐GMO‐UK‐2007‐49) for the placing on the market of the insect resistant and herbicide tolerant genetically modified maize Bt11×GA21 for food and feed uses, import and processing under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 from Syngenta Seeds

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2009
This scientific opinion reports on an evaluation of a risk assessment for placing on the market the genetically modified insect resistant and herbicide tolerant maize Bt11×GA21 for food and feed uses, import and processing.

Scientific Opinion on a request from the European Commission related to the prolongation of prohibition of the placing on the market of genetically modified oilseed rape events Ms8, Rf3 and Ms8 x Rf3 for import, processing and feed uses in Austria [PDF]

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2012
<p>Following a request from the European Commission, the Panel on Genetically Modified Organisms of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA GMO Panel) evaluated the documentation provided by Austria to support the prolongation of the safeguard ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

RNAi-Mediated Silencing of vATPase Subunit E Impairs Larval Development in Plutella xylostella, and Virtual Screening Identifies a Potential Inhibitor

open access: yesInsects
The diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella) is a devastating global pest of cruciferous crops. This study explores the potential of targeting the vacuolar ATPase subunit E (PxvATPaseE) for its control.

Scientific Opinion on application (EFSA-GMO-NL-2009-64) for the placing on the market of herbicide-tolerant genetically modified soybean BPS-CV127-9 for food and feed uses, import and processing under Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 from BASF Plant Science [PDF]

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2014
Soybean BPS-CV127-9 contains a single insertion locus of the csr1-2 gene. Stability of the genetic modification was demonstrated. The expression of the acetohydroxyacid synthase large sub-unit from Arabidopsis thaliana, conferring tolerance to ...
