Macrophage TNF-α mediates parathion-induced airway hyperreactivity in guinea pigs. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) are implicated in human asthma. We previously demonstrated that, at concentrations that do not inhibit acetylcholinesterase activity, the OP parathion causes airway hyperreactivity in guinea pigs as a result of ...

Control failure risk, resistance and enzymatic activity of neurotoxic insecticides in Brazilian populations of Leucoptera coffeella (Lepidoptera: Lyonetiidae)

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Bioassays of 36 Leucoptera coffeella populations revealed resistance to neurotoxic insecticides, control failures of ≤62.9% and enzyme activity variation, with particularly high GST and low AChE levels. Abstract Background Leucoptera coffeella is a key pest of coffee crops in Brazil, causing significant damage by mining coffee leaves.

Impact of Environmental Exposure on Infant Sleep : The Exposome Approach

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, EarlyView.
This review explores how exposure to environmental pollutants during the first 1000 days of life may affect infant sleep. Evidence suggests potential links between chemical exposures and sleep disturbances, underscoring the need for more research on early‐life vulnerability and the impact of pollutants in air, diet, and breast milk.

Midazolam Efficacy Against Acute Hydrogen Sulfide-Induced Mortality and Neurotoxicity. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a colorless, highly neurotoxic gas. It is not only an occupational and environmental hazard but also of concern to the Department of Homeland Security for potential nefarious use. Acute high-dose H2S exposure causes death, while

Full‐length coding sequence analysis of the voltage‐gated sodium channel and acetylcholinesterase genes reveals target‐site mutations and acetylcholinesterase gene duplication in housefly (Musca domestica) populations in Japanese livestock barns

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
We simultaneously analysed insecticide resistance mutations in VGSC and AChE using NGS and hybridization probe capture in houseflies collected from livestock facilities for the first time. Resistance mutations in both VGSC and AChE were detected in most wild populations, suggesting widespread distribution of resistance genes.

Computational design of receptors for an organophosphate surrogate of the nerve agent soman [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2004
We report the computational design of soluble protein receptors for pinacolyl methyl phosphonic acid (PMPA), the predominant hydrolytic product of the nerve agent soman. Using recently developed computational protein design techniques, the ligand-binding pockets of two periplasmic binding proteins, glucose-binding protein and ribose-binding protein ...

The importance of longitudinal evaluation using DAT‐SPECT in organophosphate‐induced toxic parkinsonism

open access: yesPsychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences Reports, Volume 5, Issue 2, June 2026.
We performed longitudinal evaluation using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and dopamine transporter single‐photon emission computed tomography (DAT‐SPECT) in a case of organophosphate‐induced toxic parkinsonism. Fluid‐attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) images showed bilateral striatal hyperintensity in the acute phase, followed by reduction of ...

Central Executive Dysfunction and Deferred Prefrontal Processing in Veterans with Gulf War Illness. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Gulf War Illness is associated with toxic exposure to cholinergic disruptive chemicals. The cholinergic system has been shown to mediate the central executive of working memory (WM).

Enhancing Stored Wheat Shelf Life: Advances in Storage Technologies, Integrated Pest Management, and Climate‐Responsive Approaches

open access: yesFood and Energy Security, Volume 15, Issue 3, May/June 2026.
ABSTRACT Recent advances in agricultural production and storage systems have contributed to a significant enhancement in annual wheat production and preservation, aimed at satisfying increasing consumer demands. Despite such potential developments, there are still significant post‐harvest losses in stored wheat, induced by destructive pests, grain ...

Crystal Facets Reactivity in Metal–Organic Frameworks

open access: yesIsrael Journal of Chemistry, Volume 66, Issue 3, May 2026.
In this mini review, it is highlighted how the crystal facets reactivity of metal–organic frameworks can be dictated by bond strength, surface functionality, particle size, defect density, or crystal morphology. Precise control of these parameters enables deliberate exposure of crystal facets, leading to enhanced crystal surface accessibility and ...
