Organocatalytic Asymmetric Synthesis and Use of Organoselenium Compounds
Synlett, 2012In the last ten years organocatalysis has emerged as an efficient and sustainable strategy for the asymmetric synthesis of chiral molecules. Optically active intermediates for novel interesting transformations are generated under mild and operationally simple conditions when selenium-containing compounds are used as reaction partners.

Mechanisms of mammary cancer chemoprevention by organoselenium compounds
Mutation Research - Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, 2004Searching for optimal diets and for naturally occurring agents in routinely consumed foods that may inhibit cancer development, although challenging, constitutes a valuable and plausible approach to finding ways to control and prevent cancer. To date, the use of the micronutrient selenium in human clinical trials is limited but the outcome of these ...

Bioactive Organoselenium Compounds and Therapeutic Perspectives
2018After 1984, when ebselen was tested as a mimetic of the key antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase (GPx), a plethora of organoselenium compounds have been synthesized and tested for various pharmacological purposes. Here a brief overview of the most important achievements in bioactive organoselenium small molecules is given, with particular emphasis

Organoselenium Compounds as Chiral Building Blocks
2022Organic selenium reagents were successfully applied as building blocks in asymmetric reactions for their rich and versatile reactivity. The stereoselectivity can be controlled by the chiral selenium reagents or by the chirality of the reactants. A few examples of chiral diselenides employed as catalysts in asymmetric reactions were also reported.

[Convulsive properties of various organoselenium compounds].
Comptes rendus des seances de la Societe de biologie et de ses filiales, 1978Three organo-selenium compounds have been synthetized : methyl seleno-2 benzoic acid, acetylseleno-2 benzoic acid and diselenosalicylic acid. These compounds induce convulsive seizures in the rat, the most active of them being methyl seleno 2 benzoic acid. Convulsions are stopped after anaesthesia with pentobarbitone.
