Evidence for a common biliary cholesterol and VLDL cholesterol precursor pool in rat liver.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1992
Hepatic free cholesterol levels are influenced by cholesterol synthesis and ester formation, which, in turn, might regulate cholesterol secretion into bile and plasma.

Renally Generated Ammonia as a Cause of Hyperammonaemic Non‐Hepatic Encephalopathy

open access: yesNephrology, Volume 31, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Encephalopathy with high ammonia levels is most commonly associated with cirrhosis or urea cycle disorders, but it can also result from renal ammoniagenesis when renal excretion of ammonium is impaired. In the literature, this has been shown to occur in the presence of (1) urinary diversion to a segment of intestine; (2) urea‐splitting ...

Stage‐Specific Metabolic and Proteomic Dynamics Underlying Ripening and Quality Formation in Tropical Evergreen Pomegranate

open access: yeseFood, Volume 7, Issue 4, August 2026.
Integrated multi‐omics reveals that pomegranate ripening between 90 and 130 days drives optimal sugar‐acid balance and pigmentation via coordinated regulation of phenylpropanoid, flavonoid, and carbohydrate metabolism pathways. ABSTRACT Pomegranate fruit development involves coordinated physiological, metabolic, and proteomic changes shaping coloration

Determination of Orotic Acid in Children’s Urine [PDF]

open access: yescclm, 1980
A reliable method is described for the determination of urinary orotic acid. The orotic acid is separated quickly and easily from the urine by anion exchange chromatography. Reference values are reported for children. The method is suitable for the differentiation of those inherited metabolic defects that lead to hyperammonemia.

Determination of urinary orotic acid and uracil by capillary zone electrophoresis

open access: yes, 1999
We describe a simple method for measuring orotic acid and uracil concentration in urine by capillary zone electrophoresis in 20 mM Na-borate buffer, pH 9.2.

Antioxidant potential and Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity of orotic acid-loaded gum arabic nanoparticles [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Orotic acid (OA) nanoparticles were prepared using the freeze-drying method. The antihypertensive activity and antioxidant capacity of OA and orotic acid-loaded gum arabic nanoparticles (OAGANPs) were examined using the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE)

Neonatal presentation of ventricular tachycardia and a Reye-like syndrome episode associated with disturbed mitochondrial energy metabolism

open access: yesBMC Pediatrics, 2002
Background Hyperammonemia, hypoglycemia, hepatopathy, and ventricular tachycardia are common presenting features of carnitine-acylcarnitine translocase deficiency (Mendelian Inheritance in Man database: *212138), a mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation ...

Nucleotide Metabolism in Health and Disease

open access: yesMedComm, Volume 7, Issue 8, August 2026.
Nucleotide metabolism, including de novo synthesis, salvage pathways, and catabolism, when dysregulated contributes to cancer, immune disorders, metabolic and urological diseases, and radiation injury. Metabolites such as adenosine, cGAMP, NAD, and cAMP and enzymes like RNR are promising therapeutic targets and biomarkers.

Plastic Diets Drive Microbiome and Metabolic Reprogramming in Wax Moth Larvae (Achroia grisella)

open access: yesArchives of Insect Biochemistry and Physiology, Volume 122, Issue 3, July 2026.
Wax moth larvae (Achroia grisella) can consume LDPE and PLA, triggering polymer‐specific restructuring of the gut microbiome and host metabolism. LDPE feeding enriches Bacillus spp. and is associated with shifts in carbohydrate and amino‐acid pathways consistent with hydrocarbon processing, whereas PLA feeding enriches Enterococcus spp.
