Ménière's Disease: A Tri‐Decade Scoping Review of Treatment Trends and Evidence Quality

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This tri‐decade scoping review of Ménière's disease literature reveals a significant increase in high‐level evidence and a clinical pivot toward hearing‐preserving interventions, such as intratympanic steroids and cochlear implants. However, a significant quality paradox has emerged, where adherence to standardized AAO‐HNS reporting and diagnostic ...

Emerging Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emission Techniques to Identify Preclinical Warning Signs of Basal Cochlear Dysfunction Due to Ototoxicity

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Hundreds of medications commonly prescribed for anticancer treatments and some infections are known to cause hearing damage, referred to as ototoxicity.

Longitudinal Evaluation of Otoacoustic Emissions as a Screening Tool for High‐Frequency Hearing Loss in Adolescents

open access: yesOtolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To investigate the association between distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) signal‐to‐noise ratios (SNRs) and pure‐tone audiometry (PTA) thresholds in adolescents, both cross‐sectionally at age 18 and longitudinally by evaluating whether DPOAE SNRs at age 13 predict high‐frequency hearing loss (HFHL) at age 18.

Selumetinib as a Target Therapy in Progressive Paediatric Low‐Grade Gliomas—Case Series (pLGG)

open access: yesJournal of Paediatrics and Child Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Optic pathway gliomas (OPGs) occur in 15%–20% of children with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). While smaller gliomas may be only monitored, the current standard of care for symptomatic ones relies on chemotherapy, most commonly carboplatin and vincristine.

Systematic review and scoring‐based selection of pharmacokinetic models for precision dosing of vancomycin in neonates and children

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Volume 92, Issue 7, Page 2028-2048, July 2026.
This systematic review identified 112 population pharmacokinetic models of vancomycin in neonates and children. To support rational model selection for model‐informed precision, we developed and applied expert‐driven, transparent criteria that integrate both methodological rigour and clinical relevance.

Risk versus benefit: Who assesses this in the management of patients on ototoxic drugs?

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacy and Bioallied Sciences, 2017
The current paper is an attempt at highlighting important strategic indicators, as well as important variables, that the audiology community needs to consider in order to play a more central role in pharmaco-vigilance as part of pharmaco-audiology ...

Hearing Loss in Adults With Diabetes and Prediabetes: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesDiabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews, Volume 42, Issue 5, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Diabetes impairs hearing through microvascular damage and neuropathy, yet the prevalence of moderate‐to‐severe hearing loss (≥ 40 dB HL) remains inadequately explored. Variations by age, diabetes duration, and socioeconomic factors are inadequately characterised. This systematic review quantified the prevalence and comparative risk of moderate‐

Impact of drug-resistant tuberculosis treatment on hearing function in South African adults: Bedaquiline versus kanamycin

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Communication Disorders, 2021
Background: Ototoxicity linked to medications used to treat tuberculosis (TB) remains a global challenge. Objectives: The aim was to describe the audiological function in a group of adults with drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) on bedaquiline (G-BDQ ...

Distortion-Product Otoacoustic Emission Test Performance for Ototoxicity Monitoring [PDF]

open access: yesEar & Hearing, 2011
A nonbehavioral method for monitoring ototoxicity in patients treated with cisplatin is needed because patients enduring chemotherapy may not be well or cooperative enough to undergo repeated hearing tests. Distortion-product otoacoustic emissions (DPOAEs) provide a nonbehavioral measure of auditory function that is sensitive to cisplatin exposure ...

Intravesical therapy for recurrent urinary tract infection: a systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesBJU International, Volume 138, Issue 1, Page 33-44, July 2026.
Objective To undertake a systematic review and meta‐analysis to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and clinical applicability of intravesical instillations for preventing recurrent urinary tract infections (rUTIs). Methods PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane CENTRAL, Scopus, and Web of Science were searched from January 2000 to April 2025 for randomised and ...
