Synthesis of polyhydroxyalkanoate in the peroxisome of Pichia pastoris [PDF]
Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are polyesters naturally produced by bacteria that have properties of biodegradable plastics and elastomers. A PHA synthase from Pseudomonas aeruginosa modified at the carboxy-end for peroxisomal targeting was transformed in ...

Somatic genome‐doubling is the most parsimonious route to allopolyploidy
Summary The origin of a polyploid can hinge on a single errant cell division, a mistake in the cell cycle that leads to genome‐doubling and re‐writes the rules of chromosome pairing and segregation. In plants, the evolutionary significance of these errors is magnified by lack of an early sequestered germline, meaning somatic mutations can be heritable.

Adenosine to inosine editing by ADAR2 requires formation of a ternary complex on the GluR-B R/G site [PDF]
RNA editing by members of the ADAR (adenosine deaminase that acts on RNA) enzyme family involves hydrolytic deamination of adenosine to inosine within the context of a double-stranded pre-mRNA substrate.

Fungal unspecific peroxygenases (UPOs) are promiscuous heme‐containing enzymes that selectively oxyfuntionalize C‐H bonds. Structural and enzymatic reaction studies of an evolved UPO mutant from Candolleomyces (Psathyrella) aberdarensis (PabUPO‐I) reveal how the heme channel architecture dictates the regioselectivity towards alkanes, fatty acids and ...

Engineering a Synthetic Formatotrophic Yeast With Enhanced Growth Capacity on Formate
Engineering Yeast for Growth on Formate and Methanol via Serine‐Centered C1 Coupling. By engineering serine metabolism and remodeling the rGly pathway, we rendered yeast growth strictly dependent on formate. This synthetic formatotrophy enables growth on dual‐C1 substrates by channeling formate into the central metabolism via serine deaminases and ...

Evidence of Pre-Imaginal Overwintering of Diamondback Moth, \u3ci\u3ePlutella Xylostella\u3c/i\u3e (Lepidoptera: Plutellidae) in Michigan [PDF]
We investigated the possibility of overwintering of the diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella L., in central Michigan. In the spring of 1993, counts of immature stages on brassicaceous weeds in a field previously planted to broccoli revealed a small but ...
