This study examined p27 expression in a cohort of salivary malignancies (n = 74) for a prolonged period (20 years). Reduction of p27 expression was found to be a most powerful predictor for poor survival and more so when the tumor concurrently expressed high levels of p53, TUNEL and heparanase markers, dramatically dropping the patient survival ...

Mechanism of Cdk2/Cyclin E Inhibition by p27 and p27 Phosphorylation
Biochemistry, 1999The biochemical interactions between the Cdk2/Cyclin E kinase and its inhibitor p27, were investigated using purified, recombinant p27 and CAK-phosphorylated Cdk2/Cyclin E. From kcat/Km determinations using either histone H1 or pRb as substrates, we found that Cdk2/Cyclin E has 60-fold higher specificity for pRb than for histone H1.

Role of p27 in Prostate Carcinogenesis
Cancer and Metastasis Reviews, 1998The cyclin dependent kinase inhibitor p27 binds to and inhibits preferentially S-phase kinases thereby halting cell cycle progression. Loss of p27 expression has been shown to be associated with aggressive behavior in a variety of human epithelial tumors including prostate cancer. In this review, the role of p27 in cell cycle progression as well as its

Application of p27 gene therapy for human malignant glioma potentiated by using mutant p27
Journal of Neurosurgery, 2004Object. Malignant glioma could be an ideal candidate for local gene therapy because its invasion is local and it has little metastatic potential. A low expression level and high degradation activity of p27 are known to constitute an independent poor prognostic factor in patients with malignant glioma.

p27 and Barrett’s esophagus: a review*
Diseases of the Esophagus, 2004The rising prevalence of Barrett's esophagus and Barrett's associated adenocarcinoma in the Western world has stimulated increasing interest in this disease. This has resulted in a plethora of articles concerning its molecular biology, but the tumor suppressor gene, p27, has received little attention.

P27/CDKN1B Translational Regulators in Pituitary Tumorigenesis
Hormone and Metabolic Research, 2016In pituitary tumors, P27(CDKN1B) is underexpressed. We aimed to clarify whether translational regulation underlies this phenomenon. This study evaluated the expression of P27/CDKN1B, its targets (CCNE1, CDK2) and translational regulators (DKC1, RPS13, miR221, miR222) and screened for DKC1 variants in sporadic pituitary adenomas.

Tuberin, p27 and mTOR in different cells
Amino Acids, 2008Mutations in the genes TSC1 or TSC2 cause the autosomal dominantly inherited tumor suppressor syndrome tuberous sclerosis, which is characterized by the development of tumors, named hamartomas, in different organs. The TSC gene products, hamartin and tuberin, form a complex, of which tuberin is assumed to be the functional component. Both, hamartin and

p27 in Cell Cycle Control and Cancer
Leukemia & Lymphoma, 2000In order to survive, cells need tight control of cell cycle progression. The control mechanisms are often lost in human cancer cells. The cell cycle is driven forward by cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs). The CDK inhibitors (CKIs) are important regulators of the CDKs.
