Pathogenicity of Fusarium xylarioides, the Causal Pathogen of Coffee Wilt Disease, in Coffee Seedlings and an Alternate Host, Tomato Fruit

Fusarium xylarioides can colonise tomato fruits (Solanum lycopersicum) as an alternative host to coffee. Alternative hosts such as solanaceous weeds surrounding coffee fields could help pathogens survive, spread and provide inoculum for the next growing season.

These parasites represent the largest source of biotic stress experienced by plants. The production strain of the food enzyme contains several antimicrobial resistance genes, of which at least one is acquired.
