Correlation Between Helicobacter pylori Infection and Tongue Manifestations: A Meta-analysis

open access: yesDigital Chinese Medicine, 2018
: Objective To analyze the relationship between Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection and the manifestations of the tongue. Methods Without language restrictions, we searched databases including CAJD, CBMdisc, CDFD, CMFD, PubMed, Cochrane, and EMBASE ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Peer Review

open access: yesJournal for Nurses in Professional Development, 2017
Peer review for publication is fundamental to science-based fields, and nursing is no exception. Peer review provides benefits to the reviewer and the author(s) of the reviewed work. The purpose of this article is to provide readers with an explanation of how the peer review process works, what the responsibilities of a peer reviewer are, how to get ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Innovations in scholarly peer review at Nature Publishing Group and Palgrave Macmillan

open access: yesInsights: The UKSG Journal, 2015
The peer-review system is one of the cornerstones of quality, integrity and reproducibility in research, and its existence has enabled the scholarly publishing system to function for hundreds of years.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

How Long is the Peer Review Process for Journal Manuscripts? A Case Study on Angewandte Chemie International Edition

open access: yesCHIMIA, 2010
One of the most frequently raised criticisms of the review process for manuscripts is that the length of time between submission of a manuscript and the editorial decision is overly long.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
