Effects of Pentachlorophenol, Pentylenetetrazol and Carnitine on Mitochondria

open access: yesJournal of UOEH, 1998
Pentachlorophenol (PCP) increased oxygen consumption and lowered the respiratory control ratio (RCR) in mitochondria from rat liver. These effects of PCP were lessened by 1 mM L-carnitine but not by D-carnitine. In contrast, up to 150 mM of pentylenetetrazol (PTZ) added at state 4 of respiration did not accelerate oxygen consumption.

How Can Network-Pharmacology Contribute to Antiepileptic Drug Development? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Network-pharmacology is a field of pharmacology emerging from the observation that most clinical drugs have multiple targets, contrasting with the previously dominant magic bullet paradigm which proposed the search of exquisitely selective drugs. What is

Morphine modulates the effects of histamine H1 and H3 receptors on seizure susceptibility in pentylenetetrazole-induced seizure model of mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Histamine regulates release of neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin, gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), glutamate and also is involved in several functions in central nervous system (CNS).

The effect of cyclooxygenase-2 inhibition on pentylenetetrazole-induced seizure threshold in mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Previous studies have shown the protective effect of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme in development of convulsions. However, involvement of COX-2 in the pathogenesis of epilepsy is not yet well-known. The present study was designed to investigate

Pirfenidone regulates seizures through the HMGB1/TLR4 axis to improve cognitive functions and modulate oxidative stress and neurotransmitters in PTZ-induced kindling in mice

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
BackgroundEpilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent seizures due to abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Pirfenidone, an antifibrotic drug, has shown anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in various disease models ...
