Effects of peptide YY on gallbladder motility

American Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 1987
The effects of peptide YY (PYY) on cholecystokinin-stimulated gallbladder contraction were investigated in the prairie dog model. Twelve animals underwent laparotomy with catheter placement into the gallbladder and common bile duct (vent). The gallbladder was continuously perfused with [14C]polyethylene glycol-labeled lactated Ringer at 0.03 ml/min ...

Peptide YY abnormalities in gastrointestinal diseases

Gastroenterology, 1986
Plasma concentrations of peptide YY (PYY), a newly isolated peptide produced by ileal and colonic endocrine cells, were measured in several groups of patients with digestive disorders after a standardized normal breakfast. Peptide YY levels were found to be grossly elevated in patients with steatorrhea due to small intestinal mucosal atrophy (tropical ...

Peptide YY in children: a review

Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism, 2012
Peptide YY has been found to reduce food intake via the vagal-brainstem-hypothalamic pathway. There is some indication that PYY levels may differ in early childhood in comparison with adult studies. Studies of PYY in children have yet to be synthesized. This review synthesized 21 articles including studies with infants/newborns, primary school age ...

Distribution of pancreatic polypeptide and peptide YY

Peptides, 2002
The cellular distribution of PP and PYY in mammals is reviewed. Expression of PP is restricted to endocrine cells mainly present in the pancreas predominantly in the duodenal portion (head) but also found in small numbers in the gastro-intestinal tract. PYY has a dual expression in both endocrine cells and neurons.

Characterization of Peptide YY Receptors in the Brain

Endocrinology, 1989
We studied the pharmacological and structural characteristics of peptide YY (PYY) receptors in porcine brain. PYY and neuropeptide Y (NPY) bound with high affinity to crude membrane preparations from the hippocampus, but their C-terminal fragments bound with 30- to 450-fold lower affinity Guanine nucleotides, especially the nonhydrolyzable GTP analog ...

Peptide YY: A Potential Therapy for Obesity

Current Drug Targets, 2005
Obesity now represents a modern epidemic in western society with major health and economic consequences. Unfortunately, previous pharmacological approaches to the treatment of obesity have been associated with life-threatening side effects and limited efficacy. Over recent years there has been a marked increase in our understanding of the physiological

Peptide YY

Pancreas, 1989
We studied the intrapancreatic localization of peptide YY (PYY) and the effects of PYY on insulin and glucagon secretion in the mouse. Immunofluorescence staining of mouse pancreatic tissue showed that PYY occurred within islet cells. These cells were located preferentially at the periphery of the islets.

Peptide YY: A neuroendocrine neighbor of note

Peptides, 2007
Endocrine cells, enteric neurons and enterocytes provide an integrated functional defense against luminal factors, including nutrients, microbes and toxins. Prominent among intrinsic mediators is peptide YY (PYY) which is present in approximately 50% of colorectal endocrine cells and neuropeptide Y (NPY), a neurotransmitter expressed in submucous and ...

Peptide YY(1-36) and Peptide YY(3-36): Part I. Distribution, Release and Actions

Obesity Surgery, 2006
Peptide YY (PYY) is a 36 amino acid, straight chain polypeptide, which is co-localized with GLP-1 in the L-type endocrine cells of the GI mucosa. PYY shares structural homology with neuropeptide Y (NPY) and pancreatic polypeptide (PP), and together form the Neuropeptide Y Family of Peptides, which is also called the Pancreatic Polypeptide-Fold Family ...
